Abstract

Tomuan Pane Hamlet in Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra, faces critical challenges in drinking water provision due to the absence of a household water distribution network. Additionally, water quality tests revealed phosphate and total coliform contamination levels exceeding the drinking water standards set by the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023. The contamination is attributed to nearby agricultural activities and poorly maintained environmental infrastructure. This study aims to design a simple, community-based water distribution and treatment system (Penyediaan Air Minum Berbasis Masyarakat: PAMBM). Water demand projections were calculated using three population growth methods: arithmetic, geometric, and least square approaches. The distribution network was simulated using EPANET 2.2 software. The water treatment system was designed utilizing simple filtration tailored to local conditions. Population projections indicate that water demand in 2040 will reach 0.88 L/s. The proposed treatment system consists of two filtration stages: a 1.2-meter downflow reactor of 67% zeolite, 8% sand, 8% activated carbon media, and a 2-meter upflow reactor of 21% zeolite, 21% gravel, 27% activated carbon, and 21% sand media:. The combined system effectively reduced phosphate concentrations by 49.39% and completely eliminated total coliforms (100% removal). The distribution network simulation produced an average flow velocity of 0.71 m/s using a 5 cm transmission pipe and a 4 cm main distribution pipe.

Abstract

Canang waste, a type of organic waste from Balinese Hindu offerings, is commonly produced in traditional villages such as Desa Tihingan. This study aims to utilize canang waste as raw material for briquette production. The method employed is experimental, involving stages such as material collection, drying, shredding, carbonization, sieving, mixing, molding, and drying. Samples were tested using a bomb calorimeter to determine their Higher Heating Value (HHV) and Lower Heating Value (LHV). The results showed that canang briquettes have an HHV of 21.27 MJ/kg and an LHV of 19.64 MJ/kg, which are higher than those of mixed organic briquettes (HHV: 20.62 MJ/kg, LHV: 18.47 MJ/kg), but lower than prapen charcoal (HHV: 26.95 MJ/kg, LHV: 25.82 MJ/kg). These findings indicate that canang briquettes have potential as a viable alternative fuel. Moreover, this approach offers an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution for managing ceremonial waste.

Abstract

Sumber utama dari permasalahan sampah adalah metode pengelolaan yang dilakukan masih bersifat tradisional yaitu dengan metode end of pipe. Dimana proses pengelolaan sampah bertumpu pada Tempat Pemrosesan Akhir (TPA). Sektor pariwisata dan pertanian menjadi salah satu faktor penyumbang timbulan sampah Permasalahan tersebut dapat diatasi dengan melakukan perubahan paradigma pengelolaannya. Pengelolaan sampah perlu dilakukan secara berkelanjutan dengan pengelolaan sampah berbasis sumber berbasis Reduce, Reuse, dan Recycle yang dilakukan melalui penyelenggaraan Tempat Pengelolaan Sampah berbasi 3R (TPS 3R). Desa Ayunan merupakan salah satu Desa di Kabupaten Badung Bali yang saat ini sedang merencanakan pembangunan TPS 3R. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis timbulan dan kompisis sampah serta menganalisis perencanaan TPS 3R di Desa Ayunan. Metode perhitungan timbulan dan komposisi sampah berdasarkan SNI 19-3964-1994. Sedangkan analisis perencanaan TPS 3R menggunakan 3 pendekatan yaitu penetapan lokasi, sistem pengelolaan sampah dan desain TPS 3R. Timbulan sampah di Desa Ayunan sebesar 0,522 kg/o/h atau 0,008 m3/orang/hari. Timbulan tersebut terdiri dari sampah organik sebesar 0,384 kg/o/h atau 0.004 m3/orang/hari dan sampah anorganik sebesar 0,138 kg/o/h atau 0,004 m3/orang hari. Komposisi sampah organik terdiri dari 23.43% sampah makanan dan 76.57% sampah kebun. Sedangkan komposisi sampah anorganik terdiri dari 83.66% sampah plastik, 0.42% sampah karet 1.37% sampah logam, 14.55% sampah kertas/ karton. TPS 3R Desa Ayunan direncanakan seluas 300 m2 dengan pembagian area yaitu sebagai berikut Area Penerimaan dan Pemilahan (30 m2), Area Pengomposan (120 m2), Area Pengayakan dan Pengemasan (45 m2), Gudang Peralatan (30 m2), Gudang Produk Kompos (15 m2), Gudang Anorganik Ekonomis (15 m2) , Area Penumpukan Residu (15 m2), dan Kantor (30 m2).
