Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that can increase the risk of serious complications, including heart disease and stroke. One non-pharmacological approach that can be used to manage the accompanying hypertension is the slow deep breathing technique. This technique aims to provide a relaxation effect, reduce blood pressure management, and help regulate blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the application of slow deep breathing on blood pressure in elderly hypertension patients in the Kenanga Room of Limpung Hospital Method: This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach conducted in September 2025. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention, and using a blood pressure management questionnaire. The intervention was carried out for three consecutive days, with repeated administration of the slow deep breathing technique. Results: The results showed that there was a significant decrease in blood pressure after the intervention. Before the intervention, the average blood pressure of respondents was high, with the highest value of 202/116 mmHg and the lowest 148/100 mmHg. After the intervention, blood pressure decreased gradually, with an average decrease of 6-15 mmHg. Conclusion: Slow deep breathing has been shown to be effective in lowering blood pressure levels in people with hypertension. This technique can be used as a complementary therapy in the management of hypertension in patients.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus represents a chronic metabolic disorder that may affect patients’ physical, psychological, and social well-being, thereby influencing their overall quality of life. Spiritual well-being has been recognized as an important psychosocial resource that may support coping and adaptation among individuals living with chronic illness. This study aimed to examine the relationship between spiritual well-being and quality of life among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus receiving primary healthcare services at Puskesmas Petungkriyono, Pekalongan Regency. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed involving 41 respondents selected through consecutive sampling. Data were collected using the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and the Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) instrument. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Spearman rank correlation test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The findings indicated that most participants demonstrated high levels of spiritual well-being and good quality of life. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between spiritual well-being and quality of life (p = 0.006; r = 0.423). These results highlight the importance of incorporating spiritual dimensions within holistic healthcare approaches to enhance psychosocial adaptation and well-being among individuals living with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between nurses’ knowledge of patient safety and their compliance with the seven rights principle of medication administration in an inpatient setting at a specialized surgical hospital in Semarang. A quantitative empirical approach with a cross-sectional correlational design was employed, involving 54 nurses selected through total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and observational checklists, and analyzed using Spearman rank correlation. The findings indicate a statistically significant positive correlation with moderate strength, suggesting that higher levels of knowledge are associated with better compliance in medication practices. The results highlight that knowledge functions as a critical cognitive foundation influencing clinical behavior and adherence to safety protocols. However, variations in compliance suggest the involvement of additional factors such as workload, organizational support, and patient safety culture. These findings emphasize the need for integrated strategies combining continuous education, clinical supervision, and system-level interventions to enhance patient safety outcomes. Strengthening institutional policies and fostering a safety-oriented environment are essential to reduce medication errors and improve healthcare quality.
