Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of standard and non-standard words in daily communication among Generation Alpha. Generation Alpha, defined as individuals born from 2010 to the present, has grown up in a digital era that is strongly influenced by social media, technology, and internet culture. This condition is believed to affect their language habits, including their choice of word forms. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observation and interviews with a number of elementary and junior high school students at SMP Negeri 2 Sunggal. The collected data were analyzed based on linguistic rules outlined in the Great Dictionary of the Indonesian Language (Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia/KBBI) to identify forms of standard and non-standard words used and their contexts of usage. The results of this study are expected to provide an overview of patterns of Indonesian language use among Generation Alpha and to serve as a consideration for more contextual Indonesian language development and instruction in the digital era.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was motivated by the low ability of eighth-grade students at Amal Luhur Middle School, Medan, to write descriptive texts. This is indicated by difficulties in developing ideas, inappropriate vocabulary, and ineffective sentence structure. This study aims to analyze the improvement of descriptive text writing skills through the use of images. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with a qualitative descriptive approach, implemented in two cycles: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 15 eighth-grade students at Amal Luhur Middle School, Medan. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, writing tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study showed that the use of image media was able to improve students' descriptive text writing skills. In cycle I, the average score reached 69,7 with 40% completion, while in cycle II it increased to 79,9 with 80% completion. Qualitatively, improvements were seen in the development of ideas, the use of descriptive vocabulary, and the arrangement of text structures. Thus, the use of image media was effective in improving the descriptive text writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Amal Luhur Medan.
