Abstract

Philosophy is a discipline that emerged from human efforts to understand reality through rational and systematic inquiry. This study aims to examine the development of Western philosophical thought from ancient Greece to the modern and contemporary periods, as well as to analyze the distinctive characteristics of each philosophical era. The research employs a qualitative approach using library research by reviewing classical and modern philosophical literature. Data analysis is conducted through historical-philosophical and content analysis methods to explore paradigm shifts in philosophical thought within their social and intellectual contexts. The findings indicate that Western philosophy has undergone significant intellectual transformations, ranging from a cosmocentric orientation in ancient Greece, a theocentric approach in the medieval period, to rational and critical perspectives in the modern era. Each period has made substantial contributions to the development of epistemology and scientific thought. This study concludes that Western philosophy serves as a fundamental foundation for critical and rational thinking and remains highly relevant to contemporary scholarly discourse.

Abstract

Hadith is the second primary source of Islamic teachings after the Qur’an and plays a fundamental role in explaining and detailing Islamic principles. Unlike the Qur’an, however, hadith has not been divinely preserved directly, making its authenticity highly dependent on the process of transmission. This condition led to the emergence of weak and fabricated hadiths from the early period of Islam, necessitating a scientific method to verify and evaluate hadith authenticity. One of the most important methods in hadith studies is takhrij al-hadith, which refers to the process of tracing a hadith back to its original sources by identifying its chains of transmission (sanad), textual content (matan), and various narrations. This study aims to examine the concept of takhrij hadith, its historical development, the reference books used, and the methods of takhrij hadith, particularly manual methods. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research design by analyzing classical and contemporary hadith literature. The findings reveal that takhrij hadith plays a strategic role in determining the quality of hadith in terms of both sanad and matan and serves as a crucial foundation for preserving the authenticity of hadith as a source of Islamic law. Therefore, mastery of takhrij methods is essential for hadith researchers to ensure scientific and accountable studies.

Abstract

The development of contemporary Qur’anic interpretation constitutes an integral part of the intellectual dynamics of the Muslim community in responding to social change, cultural transformation, and the challenges of modernity. Qur’anic interpretation is no longer confined to literal textual understanding but has evolved toward contextual, critical, and multidisciplinary approaches. This article aims to examine the development of contemporary Qur’anic interpretation by focusing on contextual approaches, multidisciplinary methods, and socio-humanitarian orientations. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method. Data were collected from the works of contemporary Muslim exegetes and scholars, as well as relevant academic literature, and were analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that contemporary Qur’anic interpretation has undergone a paradigm shift from textual approaches to contextual interpretations that are more responsive to social realities. This approach is supported by multidisciplinary methods that enable a more comprehensive and applicable understanding of the Qur’an. The socio-humanitarian orientation emerges as a central objective of contemporary interpretation in addressing issues of justice, public welfare, and humanity in the modern era. This study concludes that contemporary Qur’anic interpretation represents a methodological continuation of classical exegetical traditions aimed at maintaining the Qur’an’s relevance as a guiding source for human life across time.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze ethnopedagogical values from the perspective of the philosophy of the Qur’an and their relevance to character education development. The research employed a qualitative approach using a library research method. Data sources were obtained from the Qur’an, interpretation books, scientific journals, books, and other relevant literature related to ethnopedagogy and Islamic education. Data collection techniques were conducted through documentation and literature review, while data analysis used content analysis techniques. The results revealed that ethnopedagogical values such as mutual cooperation, deliberation, tolerance, politeness, and respect for parents are closely related to educational values contained in the Qur’an. The integration of local culture and the philosophy of the Qur’an can create contextual, humanistic, and character-oriented education. Furthermore, ethnopedagogical-based education can serve as a solution to the challenges of globalization that may erode cultural identity and moral values in society. This study concludes that the implementation of ethnopedagogy from the perspective of the Qur’an has strong relevance in developing a generation that is characterized, religious, and appreciative of local culture.

Abstract

This study discusses the epistemology of qawa’id tafsir in the dialectic between textual authority and the fluidity of meaning in Qur’anic interpretation studies. The study is motivated by the emergence of various interpretative approaches that seek to preserve the sacredness of the Qur’anic text while responding to the social dynamics of modern society. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research methods. Data were obtained from classical tafsir books, tafsir methodology references, scientific journals, and various literature related to contemporary tafsir epistemology. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation studies and literature analysis, while data analysis used descriptive-analytical methods with a hermeneutic approach. The results indicate that the epistemology of qawa’id tafsir has evolved from a textual approach toward contextual and multidisciplinary approaches. Qawa’id tafsir functions as a methodological instrument to maintain balance between the authority of the Qur’anic text and interpretative dynamics influenced by social, cultural, and scientific developments. The dialectic between textual authority and the fluidity of meaning has produced diverse forms of interpretation that enrich Islamic intellectual traditions, although it also raises challenges regarding the legitimacy of interpretation. This study concludes that the development of adaptive, moderate, and contextual qawa’id tafsir is essential to ensure that Qur’anic interpretation remains relevant to contemporary societal issues without losing the fundamental values of Islamic teachings.
