Abstract

The Lapindo Mud Tragedy in Sidoarjo since 2006 is a major environmental disaster with widespread impacts, causing damage to land, settlements, and the socio-economic community. However, to date, its resolution remains fraught with controversy and injustice. This study aims to analyze the form of legal accountability carried out by PT Lapindo Brantas Inc. towards victims and evaluate law enforcement in this case. The approach used is normative legal research and field observation. It was found that PT Lapindo Brantas Inc. did not provide fair compensation to victims, and criminal law efforts were hampered by weak law enforcement and the tug-of-war of political and economic interests.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of implementing forgiveness therapy in enhancing the personal growth of inmates at the Tangerang Class II-A Women’s Correctional Facility. The method used was a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Nine subjects aged 20-40 years were selected from 50 inmates based on low to moderate scores on the forgiveness scale and the psychological well-being scale. The intervention consisted of six sessions adapted from the forgiveness model developed by Enright and Fitzgibbons. Data analysis utilized a paired-sample t-test and the N-Gain formula. The results showed a significant increase in personal growth scores from the pretest (M = 7.00; SD = 1.225) to the posttest (M = 9.44; SD = 1.424), with t(8) = −8.315 and p < 0.001. An N-Gain value of 0.610 indicates moderate effectiveness. The follow-up measurement (M = 9.67; SD = 1.118) did not differ significantly from the post-test (p = 0.347), indicating the sustainability of the changes achieved. Forgiveness scores also increased from 65.33 (pre-test) to 86.67 (post-test) and 87.33 (follow-up), confirming the role of forgiveness as a psychological mechanism for personal growth. These findings support the integration of structured forgiveness therapy into correctional programs for women’s prisons.

Abstract

Female inmates are vulnerable to various psychological challenges that may affect their psychological well-being, particularly their autonomy. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of mindfulness therapy in improving the autonomy of female inmates at the Class IIA Women’s Correctional Institution in Tangerang. A pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–double posttest design was employed. The participants consisted of nine female inmates selected based on low to moderate levels of mindfulness and psychological well-being. Data were collected using the autonomy dimension of the Psychological well-being Scale and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ). The results showed a significant increase in autonomy scores from pretest to posttest t(8) = -5.933, p < .001). The average N-Gain score was 0.50, indicating a moderate level of effectiveness. These findings suggest that mindfulness therapy was effective in enhancing the autonomy of female inmates. The results were further supported by participants’ worksheets, which indicated improvements in their ability to consider the consequences of their actions, regulate their emotions, and make decisions more independently.
