Abstract

Hanggawana Square in Slawi has an important role in shaping the city's identity and improving the quality of public spaces. This study aims to analyse the urban design dimensions that shaped the area around Hanggawana Square in Slawi after its revitalisation in 2017. The descriptive qualitative approach uses direct observation at the location and a literature study as secondary data. The results show that the square is composed of several urban design dimensions: morphological, functional, social, visual, perceptual, and temporal. The morphological dimension is reflected in the radial pattern of the roads and the prevalence of land designated for offices. This area is used for government activities, recreation, and the informal economy. The social dimension is evident in the high intensity of public interaction, particularly during car free day activities. Visually, landmark elements such as Pendopo Amangkurat and public artworks strengthen the city’s image. Perceptually, users consider this area comfortable, safe, and accessible. The temporal dimension of Alun-Alun Hanggawana is evident in the buildings that have existed over time, as well as in the various activity patterns that occur in the area. This study shows that integrating the overall dimensions of urban design is key to creating inclusive, representative, and characterful public spaces.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the eight largest plastic waste-producing countries, generating 3.4 million tons annually. Most of this waste remains underutilized and ends up in landfills. A potential solution is incorporating plastic waste into asphalt mixtures to enhance road performance. This method not only reduces plastic waste accumulation but also improves road durability and crack resistance. This study examines the effects of different LDPE plastic forms pellets, shredded, and powder on asphalt performance under optimal plastic content. The dry mixing method was chosen for its ease of field application, where plastic is added to hot aggregates before mixing with hot asphalt. Asphalt with 5% binder was modified using LDPE pellets at 3%, 5%, 7%, and 9%. After determining the optimal plastic content at 9%, further modifications were conducted using shredded and powdered LDPE. Marshall test results showed no significant stability differences among the plastic forms, but LDPE pellets achieved the highest stability, increasing conventional asphalt stability by up to 20% at 5% binder content. The highest flow was also observed in the LDPE pellet mixture, increasing by 0.18 mm. These findings suggest that using LDPE pellets enhances asphalt crack resistance.

Abstract

Purwokerto Station is a major transportation hub in Banyumas Regency with significant potential to bed developed into a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area. This study aims to evaluate the sustainability of the area within an 800-meter radius from the station based on six core TOD principles : walkability, mixed-use, connectivity, density, transit service, and public space. The method used is a descriptive approach based on literature review, planning documents, as well as spatial and visual data. The assessment was conducted using a scoring system with technical indicators for each aspect on a scale of 0 to 5. The evaluation results show that area only score 14 out of 30 (46,67%), indicating a low level of TOD compliance. While connectivity and transit service performed moderatly, aspects such as walkability, mixed-use, and public space remain far from the ideal standard. These findings highlight the need for re-planning strategies and RDTR policy revisions to support TOD principles, including improving pedestrian infrastructure, integrating transport modes, and providing public spaces. This research serves as an important foundation for the sustainable development of TOD-based areas in Purwokerto.
