Abstract

This research is based on the fact that the low KPS of elementary school students is generally caused by learning that is still teacher-centered and memorization-oriented, so that students are rarely involved in experimental activities or direct investigations. This study aims to determine the improvement of Science Process Skills through the application of the PBL learning model of fifth-grade students of SDN 106 Pekanbaru. The research method used is an experimental method with a Quasi Experimental Design design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design form. The instrument used is a basic Science Process Skills test totaling 25 multiple-choice questions through an initial test (pretest) and a final test (posttest). The results of this study of students' Science Process Skills, in the experimental class by applying the PBL model, the average pretest score was 59.60 and the control class 56.00, then the posttest results of the average experimental class score were 86.53 and the control class the average posttest score was 71.33. The highest KPS indicators are observing with an average of 89.3 and communicating with an average of 88.9 and the lowest is predicting with an average of 82. There is a significant increase based on the Mann-Whitney U test Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected with a significance value of Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001 < 0.05, meaning that the application of PBL learning treatment or model in the experimental class has a positive effect on improving students' Science Process Skills compared to the control class.
