Abstract

Natural fiber-based composite materials are becoming an environmentally friendly alternative that continues to be developed due to their abundant availability, light weight, and low production costs. This study aims to determine the effect of volume fraction and fiber direction on the mechanical properties of empty oil palm fruit bunch (OPEFB) fiber-based composites, particularly impact toughness and flexural strength. The composite manufacturing process was carried out experimentally using hand lay-up and compression molding methods. OPEFB fibers were used as reinforcement and polyester resin as matrix, with the addition of MEKPO catalyst at 1% of the resin volume. Composites were varied based on fiber volume fraction (20%, 30%, and 40%) and fiber direction (0°, 45°, and 90°). Impact toughness testing was carried out using the Izod method referring to ASTM D256, while flexural strength was tested using the three-point bending method (ASTM D790). The results showed that a 30% volume fraction with a 0° fiber direction produced the highest flexural strength of 95.7 MPa, while a 40% volume fraction with a 45° direction showed the highest impact toughness of 28.1 kJ/m². Increasing the fiber volume fraction above 30% decreased the flexural strength due to fiber agglomeration. The 0° fiber direction was optimal for flexure, while 45° was most effective for absorbing impact energy.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of electrode variations on mild steel plates using variations in corrosive environments. The method used in this study is experimental. Data collection techniques are carried out by documenting workpieces that have been welded using variations of electrodes dipped in variations of corrosion media for 15 days and observed using a digital microscope with a magnification of 50X. The results of this study show that workpieces that have been welded SMAW using variations of electrodes E6010, E6013, E7018 and using corrosive solutions of seawater and rainwater to be able to see the results of the development of the corrosion rate that occurs in the workpiece, which experiences a slow corrosion rate is found in the E6013 electrode using rainwater due to the strong current in the place when welding gets good results, and it is difficult for the corrosion rate to occur. While the type of E6010 electrode immersed in seawater solution shows a very rapid corrosion rate compared to other electrodes. The initial weight of the workpiece is 215.77 grams, and after 15 days of immersion, the weight of the workpiece decreases to 213.88 grams, resulting in a weight loss of 1.89 grams.

Abstract

Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) sektor kerajinan tekstil berbasis mesin sederhana masih menghadapi permasalahan rendahnya keandalan peralatan akibat sistem pemeliharaan yang bersifat reaktif. Kondisi ini berdampak pada tingginya downtime, rendahnya produktivitas, serta ketidakkonsistenan kualitas produk. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kondisi awal pemeliharaan mesin produksi di PT X, merancang dan mengimplementasikan Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) yang sesuai dengan karakteristik UMKM, serta mengevaluasi dampaknya terhadap kinerja mesin menggunakan indikator Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi langsung, wawancara terstruktur, serta pencatatan data operasional mesin yang meliputi waktu operasi, downtime, output produksi, dan produk cacat. Implementasi TPM difokuskan pada pilar dasar yang mudah diterapkan pada UMKM, yaitu penerapan 5S, Autonomous Maintenance tingkat awal, dan Focused Improvement pada mesin dengan downtime tertinggi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum penerapan TPM, nilai OEE mesin produksi sebesar 49,2% dengan tingginya downtime tidak terencana. Setelah penerapan TPM, nilai OEE meningkat menjadi 61,8%, yang ditunjukkan oleh peningkatan komponen Availability, Performance, dan Quality. Selain meningkatkan kinerja mesin secara kuantitatif, penerapan TPM juga meningkatkan keterlibatan operator dalam aktivitas pemeliharaan mandiri dan mendorong perubahan pola pemeliharaan dari reaktif menuju preventif. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa TPM yang disederhanakan dan disesuaikan dengan keterbatasan sumber daya efektif meningkatkan keandalan peralatan dan stabilitas proses produksi pada UMKM manufaktur.
