Abstract

This study examines the interpretive discourse of Naṣr Ḥamīd Abū Zayd concerning the relationship between tafsīr and ta’wīl within contemporary Qur’ānic hermeneutics. Employing a non-empirical qualitative design, the research applies textual and qualitative content analysis to Abū Zayd’s major works, Mafhūm al-Naṣṣ: Dirāsah fī ‘Ulūm al-Qur’ān and al-Tajdīd wa al-Taḥrīm wa al-Ta’wīl: Bayna al-Ma‘rifah al-‘Ilmiyyah wa al-Khawf min al-Takfīr. The analysis explores how interpretive terminology, authority, and textual meaning are constructed within the broader intellectual history of Qur’ānic interpretation. The findings indicate that Abū Zayd reconceptualizes ta’wīl as a critical hermeneutical practice that mediates between linguistic textuality, historical context, and human reasoning. Rather than rejecting the classical exegetical tradition, his framework situates tafsīr and ta’wīl within a complementary interpretive continuum. This reconstruction challenges rigid interpretive hierarchies and highlights the discursive nature of Qur’ānic interpretation. The study demonstrates that Abū Zayd’s hermeneutical project contributes to contemporary debates on interpretive authority, contextual reading, and methodological pluralism in Qur’ānic studies, offering a conceptual model that bridges classical exegetical heritage with modern intellectual inquiry.

Abstract

Rural communities frequently encounter structural challenges related to limited educational access, declining social participation, and weakened community institutions. This study examines a community empowerment initiative implemented in Wedegan Hamlet, Sambikerep Village, Nganjuk Regency, Indonesia, focusing on the integration of education and religious programs as instruments of social transformation. The program adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework that positioned community members as active collaborators in identifying local challenges, designing interventions, and implementing solutions. Program activities included the revitalization of mosque-based religious programs, non-formal educational tutoring for children, women’s counseling and empowerment initiatives, and youth engagement through tambourine-based religious arts training. Empirical evaluation was conducted through participatory observation, informal interviews, and continuous monitoring of participation patterns among program beneficiaries. The findings indicate measurable improvements in community participation in religious activities, stronger parental involvement in supporting children’s learning, and increased youth engagement in collaborative cultural activities. These outcomes illustrate how integrated educational and socio-religious initiatives can strengthen social cohesion, enhance community participation, and stimulate grassroots social transformation in rural contexts. The study highlights the importance of participatory empowerment approaches in fostering sustainable community development.

Abstract

This Community Service Program is motivated by the low rate of halal certification among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Langkap Village, Burneh District, Bangkalan, despite the government's mandatory halal regulations. The primary problems faced by partners include limited digital literacy, complex administrative procedures, and the misconception that certification costs are expensive. The objective of this activity is to accelerate Sharia compliance and business legality through the self-declaration mechanism. The method employed in this service is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which combines policy socialization stages, technical training on the halal information system operations, and participatory self-audit mentoring. The results show a significant increase in partner capacity, with the digital system operation understanding score soaring by 283.3%. Furthermore, this activity successfully facilitated the issuance of 25 Business Identification Numbers (Nomor Induk Berusaha) and 22 official halal certificates for local culinary products, while 3 others are currently in the final verification process. This program proves that intensive technical mentoring is capable of dismantling administrative barriers and strengthening the Sharia economic ecosystem at the rural level sustainably.
