Abstract

The locomotive depot is responsible for maintaining locomotives to support the smooth mobility of trains. The inspection and maintenance workers are directly responsible for the locomotive maintenance process. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between age and job stress among inspection and maintenance workers at Semarang Poncol Locomotive Depot. The design of this research was cross-sectional. The research sampling used a total sampling technique, all 35 inspection and maintenance workers. This study used questionnaire as data collection instrument. The collected data was analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The results of the analysis showed that most of the inspection and maintenance workers, 65.7% were middle-aged, 51.4% had good perception of physical work environment, 65.7% had good working relationships, 57.1% had work shift, 51.4% had moderate mental workload, and 34.3% experienced moderate stress, not all workers experienced work stress. Variables of perceived physical work environment (p = 0.006), work shifts (p = 0.012), and mental workload (p = 0.001) have a relationship with work stress. While the variables of age (p = 0.394) and work relations (p = 0.239) have no relationship with work stress. Therefore, it is necessary to manage the work environment.
