<![CDATA[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasikan, dan menganalisis metode penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam versi bahasa Indonesia cerpen The Yellow Wallpaper berdasarkan teori Newmark (1988), serta mengkaji dampak metode dominan terhadap pelestarian suara narator orang pertama yang tidak andal dan representasi kondisi psikologis tokoh. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis dokumen terhadap 389 kalimat yang dibandingkan antara teks sumber dan teks sasaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode penerjemahan yang berorientasi pada bahasa sasaran mendominasi secara signifikan, dengan penerjemahan komunikatif sebagai metode utama (50,1%), diikuti oleh penerjemahan bebas (20,1%) dan penerjemahan literal (14,9%). Sementara itu, metode yang berorientasi pada bahasa sumber, seperti semantic dan word-for-word translation, digunakan secara terbatas. Dominasi metode komunikatif menunjukkan bahwa penerjemah lebih mengutamakan keterbacaan, keberterimaan, serta kemudahan pemahaman bagi pembaca Indonesia dibandingkan dengan mempertahankan struktur dan gaya asli teks. Selain itu, praktik eksplikasi yang ditemukan dalam penerjemahan komunikatif berperan penting dalam memperjelas makna implisit, sehingga mampu menjaga relevansi tematik dan kekuatan emosional teks, khususnya dalam merepresentasikan narator yang tidak andal. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pemilihan metode penerjemahan memiliki implikasi signifikan terhadap kualitas interpretasi dan pengalaman pembaca dalam penerjemahan karya sastra. This study aims to identify, classify, and analyze the translation methods employed in the Indonesian version of the short story The Yellow Wallpaper based on Newmark’s (1988) theory, as well as to examine the impact of dominant methods on the preservation of the unreliable first-person narrator’s voice and the representation of the character’s psychological condition. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach using document analysis of 389 sentences compared between the source text and the target text. The findings reveal that target-language-oriented translation methods significantly dominate, with communicative translation as the primary method (50.1%), followed by free translation (20.1%) and literal translation (14.9%). In contrast, source-language-oriented methods, such as semantic and word-for-word translation, are used to a limited extent. The dominance of communicative translation indicates that the translator prioritizes readability, acceptability, and ease of comprehension for Indonesian readers rather than preserving the original structure and stylistic features of the source text. Furthermore, the practice of explicitation found in communicative translation plays a crucial role in clarifying implicit meanings, thereby maintaining thematic relevance and emotional intensity, particularly in representing the unreliable narrator.
