Abstract

ABSTRACT Cultural discrimination on social media among students, including expressions based on race, ethnicity, and religion, has the potential to undermine intercultural tolerance and disrupt the social climate in schools. This study aims to examine the effect of reality counseling using the WDEP (Wants, Doing, Evaluation, Planning) technique on reducing cultural discrimination behavior on social media among eighth-grade students of SMPN 5 Mataram. A quantitative approach with a one-group pre-test–post-test experimental design was employed. The population consisted of 224 students, with a sample of 15 students selected through purposive sampling based on pre-test results indicating a high level of cultural discrimination. The intervention was conducted through six sessions of group reality counseling using the WDEP technique. Data were collected using a validated and reliable Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the calculated value was higher than the table value at the 5% significance level (df = 14). The mean score decreased from 87.60 to 65.27, indicating that reality counseling with the WDEP technique significantly reduced students’ cultural discrimination behavior on social media. ABSTRAK Perilaku diskriminasi budaya di media sosial yang dilakukan oleh siswa, seperti ujaran berbasis ras, suku, dan agama, berpotensi merusak toleransi antarbudaya serta mengganggu iklim sosial di lingkungan sekolah. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh konseling realita dengan teknik WDEP (Wants, Doing, Evaluation, Planning) terhadap penurunan perilaku diskriminasi budaya di media sosial pada siswa kelas VIII SMPN 5 Mataram. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen one group pre-test–post-test. Populasi berjumlah 224 siswa, dengan sampel 15 siswa yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling berdasarkan hasil pre-test yang menunjukkan tingkat diskriminasi budaya tinggi. Intervensi dilakukan melalui enam sesi konseling kelompok realita dengan teknik WDEP. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan angket skala Likert yang telah memenuhi uji validitas dan reliabilitas, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji paired sample t-test. Hasil analisis menunjukkan nilai lebih besar dari pada taraf signifikansi 5% (db=14). Rata-rata skor diskriminasi budaya menurun dari 87,60 menjadi 65,27. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa konseling realita dengan teknik WDEP berpengaruh signifikan dalam menurunkan perilaku diskriminasi budaya di media sosial pada siswa.
