Abstract

Spatial thinking ability is a core skill that students must possess to understand and solve problems in geography. Spatial thinking involves the integration of spatial concepts, spatial information methods, and reasoning processes that enable students to analyze spatial relationships. This cognitive skill allows learners to transform and collaborate between spatial concepts and representational tools to comprehend geospheric phenomena. This study aims to examine the implementation and influence of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on improving students’ spatial thinking ability at SMA Negeri 1Amarasi Barat in the 2025/2026 academic year. The study employs a classroom action research design with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were students of classes X1 and X2. The research procedure consisted of planning, implementation, observation, data analysis, reflection, and follow-up stages. Data were collected through questionnaires and learning achievement tests, then analyzed using mean calculations and simple linear regression tests assisted by SPSS. The findings show a significant improvement in the experimental class, with the N-gain increasing from a pretest mean of 46.65 to a posttest mean of 71.57, while the control class decreased from 57.65 to 42.26. The hypothesis test revealed significance values (2-tailed) of 0.000 and 0.001 0.05, indicating that the PBL model has a significant positive effect on students’ learning outcomes. Thus, Problem-Based Learning is proven effective in enhancing spatial thinking and improving the quality of geography learning.

Abstract

Fishing communities are coastal communities that are highly dependent on marine conditions in carrying out fishing activities. The dynamics of oceanographic conditions, such as ocean currents and tidal fluctuations, play an important role in determining fish distribution, fishing safety, and the success of fishing activities. This study aims to examine the effect of oceanographic factors on the catch of fishing communities in Namosain Village, Alak District, Kupang City. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research population consisted of fishermen in Namosain Village, with the sample determined using the Slovin formula. The results showed that partially, ocean currents had a significant effect on fishermen’s catch, while tidal fluctuations did not have a significant effect on fishermen’s catch. However, simultaneously, oceanographic factors had a significant effect on the catch of fishing communities in Namosain Village. These findings indicate that oceanographic conditions play an important role in determining the success of fishing activities; therefore, adaptation efforts and increased fishermen’s understanding of marine dynamics are needed to support the sustainability of capture fisheries and improve the welfare of coastal fishing communities.

Abstract

Tuabatan Village frequently experiences droughts, which impact clean water availability. This study aims to map groundwater potential zones as a solution to address this drought. The method used was quantitative analysis with a remote sensing approach, utilizing Sentinel-2 satellite imagery to calculate the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI). Primary data was obtained through field observations at 13 water sample points, while secondary data included satellite imagery and administrative maps. The analysis classified the study area into three groundwater potential zones based on the NDWI value range : high zone (0,13 to 0,37) covering an area of 124,11 hectares (27,87%), medium zone (0 to 0,13) covering an area of 214,11 hectares (48,09%), and low zone (-0,24 to 0) covering an area of 107 hectares (24,04%).

Abstract

Changes in rainfall are one of the factors that affect spring discharge, where during the dry season the spring discharge decreases and during the rainy season the spring discharge will increase. This study aims to (1) Determine the value of rainfall intensity in Nano Village, Boking District, South Central Timor Regency (2) Determine the distribution of rainfall in Nano Village, Boking District, South Central Timor Regency (3) Determine the relationship between changes in rainfall and drinking water resources in Nano Village, Boking District, South Central Timor Regency. The method used in this study is a quantitative method. Rainfall data for 2020–2024 was obtained from three rain posts, (1) to answer the first and second objectives, the data was analyzed using the methodPoligon Thiessen, (2) to answer the third objective, the data was analyzed using Pearson correlation..The results of the study indicate that the rainfall intensity value in Nano Village is categorized as light rain, while the distribution of rainfall in Nano Village is categorized as a monsoonal pattern. The relationship between rainfall and drinking water resources shows a positive relationship where high rainfall increases spring discharge, conversely, when rainfall decreases, groundwater supply decreases and spring discharge decreases. The conclusion of this study is that rainfall has a significant influence on the availability of drinking water resources, especially in springs. In the rainy season, increased rainfall causes increased water infiltration into the ground so that groundwater reserves increase and have an impact on increasing spring discharge. Conversely, in the dry season, low rainfall reduces the groundwater recharge process, so that spring discharge decreases.
