Abstract

The political campaign using an Ultraman costume gimmick by legislative candidate Jamaludin Malik in the 2024 election became a unique phenomenon that attracted public attention. Massive campaigns were carried out both conventionally and non-conventionally. Such a political marketing style raised assumptions regarding the influence of campaign exposure and voter perception of his political marketing in shaping voting behavior. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the Ultraman gimmick campaign exposure and voter perception simultaneously influence the electability of Jamaludin Malik. This study uses S-O-R theory, the Elaboration Likelihood Model, and Theory of Planned Behaviour with an explanatory quantitative method. The sample in this study was determined using purposive sampling technique with the criteria of voters in Jepara Regency totaling 100 respondents who had received exposure to information about the Ultraman campaign of Jamaludin Malik, particularly on social media. Data analysis used binary logistic regression because the dependent variable is categorical. The results showed that Ultraman gimmick campaign exposure (X1) had a significant effect on voting decisions with an odds ratio of 1.365, meaning that every increase in campaign exposure increases the probability of choosing Jamaludin Malik by 1.365 times. Meanwhile, voter perception (X2) had no significant effect in the partial test. However, simultaneously, both variables were proven to have a significant effect on voting decisions with a chi-square value of 37.151. The independent variables were able to contribute an effect of 41.9% on voting decisions. These findings indicate that voters tend to process campaign messages through the peripheral route, which emphasizes visual and emotional appeal more dominantly than the central route in shaping voting decisions.

Abstract

This research was conducted to examine the influence of demographic factors (independent variables) on voter behavior due to money politics (dependent variable) in the 2024 election in South Semarang District and East Semarang District, Semarang City. Money politics is a phenomenon that often occurs in Indonesia ahead of general elections. Money politics is a form of dishonesty in elections. The form of dishonesty in money politics is reflected through the giving of money, goods, or assistance with the aim of obtaining voter support from the community, and this is done with the intention of influencing the number of votes for a particular candidate so that the chances of winning the election votes are greater. This research focuses on voter behavior analyzed using a demographic factor approach, which includes age, gender, education level, income level, and occupation to see how voter tendencies respond to money politics using a quantitative approach. This research is a type of quantitative study with primary data obtained through the results of questionnaires distributed to respondents who have the right to vote in the 2024 election. The sampling technique used in this study is Multistage Random Sampling. The data analysis techniques used in this research include validity tests, reliability tests, and simple regression tests to determine the influence between demographic factors and voter behavior. The findings of this study indicate that demographic characteristics with certain traits tend to be more vulnerable to the practice of money politics. The research results show a significant influence of demographic factors on voter behavior with a negative direction of influence. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to academic development, particularly regarding money politics and voter behavior, in order to minimize the practice of money politics in the future.

Abstract

The 2024 legislative elections in Wonosobo Regency revealed a growing trend of involvement by young political actors, particularly from Generation Z, who successfully secured seats in the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD). This phenomenon is worth examining because local politics has traditionally been dominated by more senior actors, making the emergence of young candidates a new dynamic in regional political contests. This study aims to analyze factors such as social capital, political strategies, and the role of political parties in influencing the victory of Generation Z political actors in the 2024 Wonosobo Regency Legislative Elections. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with informants involved in the electoral process, followed by qualitative analysis to understand the social and political dynamics underlying the victory of Generation Z candidates. The results indicate that the victory of Generation Z political actors was primarily driven by the role of family-based social capital, the candidates’ political strategies, and political party support within the context of local political culture. Family social capital, consisting of trust, social norms, and social networks —as per Putnam’s indicators— serves as the primary foundation for building political legitimacy within the community. Additionally, political strategies that combine a defensive approach to maintain the support base with an offensive strategy to expand voter support further strengthen the candidate’s electoral mobilization. Thus, the victory of Generation Z candidates in Wonosobo Regency is the result of the integration of the power of family social capital, adaptive political strategies, and party organizational support within the local social structure.

Abstract

Women's participation is key to inclusive development, but it is often hampered by patriarchal culture, limited access to decision-making, and domestic burdens. Interestingly, Ampelsari Village in Kebumen shows a different dynamic with a high level of women's involvement in the Musrenbangdes (Village Development Planning Forum). This is driven by the leadership of the female village head, who has opened up wider opportunities for participation. This phenomenon makes Ampelsari Village a highly relevant location for further study on how gender-responsive village development planning processes take place. This study aims to analyse the level of women's participation in village development planning through the Musrenbangdes forum and to identify the factors that influence this involvement. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and documentation. The research analysis uses several theoretical frameworks, namely political participation theory with Arnstein's ladder of participation approach, gender theory that explains the division of women's social roles, and participatory planning theory that emphasises the importance of community involvement in the development process. The results show that women's participation in Musrenbangdes in Ampelsari Village is not only evident from their formal attendance but also from their involvement in the process of expressing their aspirations and proposing development programmes. The attendance rate of women in the Musrenbangdes forum reached more than 38 per cent of the total participants. A number of proposals originating from women's groups, such as family health programmes, household economic empowerment, and the strengthening of women's organisations, have been accommodated in the Village Government Work Plan (RKPDes). This condition shows a shift in the form of women's participation from mere symbolic presence to more substantive participation in the development planning process. Overall, this study concludes that women's participation in development planning in Ampelsari Village has reached a higher level of participation, namely approaching the level of partnership. However, this participation still faces obstacles such as patriarchal culture, women's limited access to strategic positions in village institutions, and the burden of domestic roles that affect their level of involvement in public forums.

Abstract

Modalities refer to the resources possessed and managed by political actors to gain and maintain power in a political contestation. In legislative elections, political, social, and economic modalities are crucial factors influencing a candidate’s success, including young women who often face structural barriers in the political arena. On the other hand, women’s representation in Indonesia is promoted through an affirmative action policy requiring a minimum quota of 30% women in legislative candidacy. However, fulfilling the quota administratively does not automatically guarantee 1Mahasiswa Ilmu Pemerintahan Universitas Dipenogoro 2Dosen Ilmu Pemerintahan Universitas Diponegoro electoral success. This study aims to analyze the modality strategies employed by Dinda Ari Ayu Isnani in winning a seat in the 2024 Semarang City Legislative Election. As a 24-year-old young woman and a newcomer to politics, Dinda successfully secured a seat in the Semarang City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the candidate, campaign team members, and voters, supported by document analysis. The data were analyzed using the framework of political, social, and economic modalities. The findings reveal that Dinda’s victory resulted from the integrated management of various modalities. Social modality played a role in building voter trust through family networks and the performance of the campaign team. Political modality was reflected in party support and easier access to the candidacy process, while economic modality functioned as operational support for campaign activities. The findings also indicate that affirmative action policies are more effectively utilized by candidates who already possess sufficient modalities. Therefore, the ownership and management of modalities are key factors in determining the electability of young women in local political contestation.
