Abstract

Arabic language learning in the global era demands linguistic mastery combined with cross-cultural competence. However, Arabic learning practices in Islamic schools (madrasah) in Indonesia are still textual and less contextual, so that students' interests and communicative skills are limited. This study aims to formulate a local culture-based Arabic language learning model through an ethno-edutainment approach as an adaptive curriculum innovation for the 21st century. The method used is library research with an analytical-critical approach, exploring the latest literature (2021–2025) related to Arabic language learning, local culture, edutainment, Islamic school, and global education. The analysis was carried out through content analysis and conceptual synthesis to design a holistic model framework. The results of the study indicate that: a) Arabic language learning in the challenges of global education, b) Local culture as a source of Arabic language learning, c) The concept of ethno-edutainment in a theoretical perspective, d) Design of a conceptual model for Arabic language learning based on ethno-edutainment, e) Opportunities and challenges of ethno-edutainment as a curriculum innovation in Islamic schools. The contribution of this research is theoretical by expanding the study of culture-based Arabic language learning, and practical as a guide for learning design, creative media development, and curriculum innovation that connects local identity with the demands of global education.

Abstract

Maharah Istima’ is the basis for Arabic language learning, but school practices are still conventional and have not been integrated with neurolinguistics and digital learning. This study develops an integrative model to optimize listening skills in 21st-century Islamic schools. This research is a conceptual study with a qualitative approach through library research. Data are sourced from relevant scientific literature and analyzed using thematic synthesis to formulate a systematic and applicable integrative model. The results of the study indicate that the development of effective Maharah Istima’ must integrate the stimulation of attention, working memory, and emotions as explained in neurolinguistic theory, with interactive multimedia strategies that align with the principles of Richard E. Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, Robert M. Gagné’s systematic learning framework through Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction, and Alan Baddeley’s Working Memory concept. The formulated integrative model includes the stages of sound recognition, contextual meaning, digital-based interactive reinforcement, and reflective evaluation. This integration enables learning that is more adaptive, interactive, and aligned with students’ cognitive architecture. This research contributes by developing an integrative conceptual framework based on neurolinguistics and digital learning as a practical guide for Arabic language teachers. This model bridges theory and practice and serves as a foundation for further empirical research that is more relevant to 21st-century needs.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media and the internet has raised concerns about its impact on children's language acquisition processes, especially in the family context. In Muslim families, the use of digital media such as YouTube is often part of children's daily lives. This study aims to reveal how the digital environment, especially YouTube social media, plays a role in children's Arabic vocabulary acquisition in Muslim families. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects of the study consisted of several Muslim families who actively use social media, especially YouTube, in their children's daily activities. Data collection was carried out through direct observation and in-depth interviews with parents and children, to explore digital media consumption practices and language interactions that occur. The results of the study show several main findings. The digital environment plays a role in enriching children's Arabic vocabulary through audiovisual content. The active involvement of parents in directing and accompanying the use of social media greatly determines the effectiveness of language acquisition. Vocabulary acquisition patterns are formed through exposure to Arabic content with Islamic nuances. There are supporting factors (educational content, controlled duration, mentoring) and inhibiting factors (irrelevant content, passive consumption) from the digital environment. The language acquisition process occurs informally but significantly in the family environment. Social digital environments such as YouTube have great potential in supporting informal Arabic language learning at home. In a psycho-sociolinguistic perspective, this study emphasizes the importance of the role of Islamic families in filtering and mentoring children's digital media consumption. Therefore, the use of digital media must be done consciously and structured in the context of language education.

Abstract

Arabic as a foreign language has high complexity, especially in writing skills, so it requires innovative learning strategies. Collaborative Picture Sequencing based on images and cooperation, with Vygotsky's theory, is effective in improving writing skills, motivation, and cooperation, although it requires attention to member dominance and time. Based on this context, this study aims to understand the dynamics of Collaborative Picture Sequencing in Arabic language writing learning, especially through the integration of Vygotsky's collaboration theory, so that the strategy can be implemented effectively according to students' learning needs. This study uses a descriptive-analytical qualitative method, with data from observations, interviews, and documentation of writing results before and after the implementation of the strategy. The results of the study show four main findings: [1] Ease of Expressing Ideas through Sequential Images. [2] Dynamics of Collaboration in Language Exchange, [3] Scaffolding in the Zone of Proximal Development, [4] Improving the Quality of Written Products. By understanding these dynamics, teachers are expected to be able to design more effective and contextual writing learning, increase students' motivation and writing skills, as well as become a reference for developing collaboration-based materials so that each student develops according to their potential.
