Abstract

Anemia among pregnant women remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, contributing to adverse maternal and fetal outcomes such as preterm birth, low birth weight, and impaired fetal development. The third trimester represents a critical stage, as iron requirements increase substantially due to rapid fetal growth and expanded maternal blood volume. Insufficient hemoglobin (HB) levels during this period are closely linked to negative health outcomes, highlighting the need for effective prevention strategies. Health education has been widely recognized as an important intervention to enhance knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to nutrition, iron supplementation, and anemia prevention. This study aimed to examine the effect of health education on anemia prevention by assessing hemoglobin levels in third-trimester pregnant women. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was applied to 30 participants selected through purposive sampling. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after structured health education sessions covering anemia prevention, iron tablet adherence, dietary improvement, and healthy lifestyle practices. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The findings showed a significant increase in hemoglobin levels after the intervention (p = 0.000). These results indicate that structured health education effectively improves hemoglobin levels and supports anemia prevention in pregnant women.

Abstract

Anxiety during pregnancy, particularly near the time of delivery, is a common issue that may adversely affect both maternal and fetal health. Elevated anxiety levels are associated with increased pain perception, prolonged labor, and a higher likelihood of complications. Non-pharmacological approaches, such as aromatherapy, are increasingly utilized due to their safety, simplicity, and effectiveness. Lavender aromatherapy is especially recognized for its calming effects and its ability to enhance emotional well-being. Previous research has indicated that lavender scent exposure can reduce both physiological and psychological indicators of anxiety, including among pregnant women. However, evidence from Indonesian primary healthcare settings remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy in reducing anxiety levels among pregnant women approaching childbirth. An analytical observational design with a pretest-posttest approach was applied to 30 participants selected through purposive sampling. Anxiety levels were assessed using a validated questionnaire before and after inhalation of lavender aromatherapy administered under standardized conditions. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The findings revealed a significant reduction in anxiety levels after the intervention (p < 0.05), with all participants experiencing improvement and no adverse effects reported. In conclusion, lavender aromatherapy is an effective complementary intervention to reduce anxiety and support maternal readiness for labor.

Abstract

Premature birth remains a major public health concern due to its strong association with increased neonatal morbidity and mortality. One of the contributing factors identified is maternal stress during pregnancy, which can negatively affect fetal development and potentially trigger early labor. Previous studies have shown that high stress levels in pregnant women may lead to hormonal imbalances, increased uterine activity, and other physiological changes that elevate the risk of preterm birth. Therefore, understanding the relationship between maternal stress and premature birth is essential for developing effective preventive strategies and improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. This study aimed to examine the relationship between stress levels in pregnant women and the incidence of premature birth in the working area of Dr. Hi Zainal Umar Sidiki Regional Hospital, North Gorontalo Regency. The research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 30 pregnant women were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Maternal stress levels were measured using a validated questionnaire, while premature birth incidence was determined based on gestational age at delivery. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed a significant relationship between maternal stress and premature birth (p = 0.000), indicating that higher stress levels increase the risk of preterm delivery. These findings highlight the importance of stress management, counseling, and comprehensive antenatal care.

Abstract

Background: Leg oedema is a common condition experienced by pregnant women, particularly during the third trimester, due to physiological changes such as increased blood volume and pressure on the lower extremities. This condition can cause discomfort, reduce mobility, and affect the quality of life of pregnant women. Pregnancy exercises are recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention to improve circulation, reduce fluid accumulation in the legs, and prevent or minimize oedema. Despite these recommendations, many pregnant women do not perform exercises regularly, and limited evidence is available regarding the effectiveness of structured pregnancy exercise programs in reducing leg oedema. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between the implementation of pregnancy exercises and the reduction of leg oedema in pregnant women in the third trimester at the Margasari Community Health Center. Methods: A quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women in their third trimester experiencing leg oedema, selected using purposive sampling. The participants were guided to perform structured pregnancy exercises over a designated period, and the degree of leg oedema was assessed before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to determine the effect of pregnancy exercises on leg oedema. Results: The Wilcoxon test indicated a statistically significant reduction in leg oedema following the implementation of pregnancy exercises, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This demonstrates that the intervention was effective in reducing fluid accumulation in the legs of pregnant women. Conclusion: Pregnancy exercises are effective in reducing leg oedema in women during the third trimester. Regular implementation of these exercises can improve maternal comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life

Abstract

Background: Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) is the practice of allowing newborns to breastfeed within the first hour after birth. This practice is not only beneficial for establishing mother-infant bonding but also plays a crucial role in stimulating uterine contractions through the release of oxytocin, which can accelerate uterine involution in postpartum mothers. Uterine involution is an important physiological process that prevents postpartum hemorrhage and supports maternal recovery. Despite the known benefits, not all mothers practice IMD immediately after delivery, which may affect the process of uterine involution. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) and the incidence of uterine involution in postpartum mothers at the Benao Community Health Center Work Area. Methods: A quantitative, observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 30 postpartum mothers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected on IMD practices and uterine involution assessments. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to analyze the relationship between IMD and uterine involution. Results: The study found a significant relationship between IMD and uterine involution (p = 0.000). Mothers who practiced IMD within the first hour postpartum showed a faster and more effective uterine involution process compared to those who did not. Conclusion: Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) is significantly associated with the incidence and speed of uterine involution in postpartum mothers. Promoting IMD immediately after birth is essential for supporting maternal recovery and preventing postpartum complications

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between the duration of 3-month contraceptive use (KB) and blood pressure in long-term users at the Tamiang Layang Community Health Center UPTD. Contraceptive use, especially hormonal methods like the 3-month injectable, is crucial for family planning but may impact health parameters such as blood pressure. Long-term use of such contraceptives can lead to hypertension if not properly monitored, posing health risks. Previous studies have highlighted variations in blood pressure responses among users, suggesting that factors like maternal age, lifestyle, and pre-existing conditions may influence these outcomes. This research used a cross-sectional observational design with 30 long-term KB acceptors. Data on contraceptive use duration and blood pressure were collected through interviews and clinical assessments. The study found that while most participants had normal blood pressure, a smaller proportion showed elevated levels. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a significant p-value of 0.000, indicating a meaningful relationship between contraceptive use duration and blood pressure. The study concludes that health workers should monitor blood pressure regularly in long-term contraceptive users and provide counseling to mitigate potential risks. Regular check-ups and lifestyle guidance are essential for maintaining cardiovascular health among users.
