Abstract

Economic empowerment through zakat has become increasingly important to reduce poverty and promote social welfare in muslim communities. This study aims to analyze the optimization of productive zakat as an instrument for empowering the Muslim community’s economy through the paradigm transformation from consumptive zakat to productive zakat, using BAZNAS Microfinance as a case study. A qualitative-normative approach was employed, combining theological and empirical analyses. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and literature review, focusing on three BAZNAS microfinance models: village, mosque, and religious study group. Thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhū’i) of Qur’anic verses and hadiths on zakat was conducted, considering asbābun nuzūl, asbābul wurūd, mufrad and ijmaly meanings, and munasabah to reveal the normative dimension of Islamic economic empowerment. Findings show that productive zakat significantly fosters mustahik economic independence through sharia-based microfinance, entrepreneurship training, and ongoing mentoring. Although the effectiveness of each model varies with social context and institutional support, all contribute positively to improving recipients’ welfare. The study concludes that optimizing productive zakat is both an economic strategy and a fulfillment of maqāṣid al-syarī’ah, particularly in preserving wealth (hifzh al-māl) and promoting public welfare (maslahah ‘ammah).

Abstract

This investigation seeks to assess the role of Maqasid al-Shariah, digital proficiency, and enduring institutional effectiveness in fostering workforce excellence within Islamic organizations. In the era of digital transformation, Islamic institutions face significant challenges in enhancing organizational competitiveness while maintaining adherence to Islamic values as the foundation of their operations. Therefore, human capital development should not only focus on improving professional competencies and technological capabilities but also emphasize moral, ethical, and spiritual dimensions. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative methodology, drawing entirely on documentary sources from libraries and scholarly repositories. Data were collected from academic books, scholarly journal articles, and other relevant literature concerning human capital, Maqasid al-Shariah, digital competencies, and organizational sustainability. The findings reveal that the concept of human capital in Islam is holistic, integrating intellectual, professional, social, and spiritual dimensions. This synthesis demonstrates that workforce excellence in Islamic institutions is achieved through the strategic integration of ethical values derived from Maqasid al-Shariah, digital competence, and sustainable organizational objectives, rather than through the independent application of these dimensions. The novelty of this study lies in proposing an integrated conceptual model that connects Maqasid al-Shariah, digital competence, and sustainable organizational performance as a comprehensive framework for developing human capital excellence in Islamic institutions. Consequently, the proposed model offers a strategic framework for Islamic institutions to strengthen competitiveness, achieve organizational sustainability, and promote broader societal welfare in the digital age.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of perceived digital sharia finance integration and perceived compliance with sharia economic principles on the decision to use umrah travel services, with consumer trust as a mediating variable. Although digital transformation in umrah travel services is developing rapidly, research that simultaneously examines the role of digital sharia finance integration, compliance with sharia economic principles, and consumer trust in influencing service usage decisions remains limited. Therefore, this research is important to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing consumer decisions in the sharia-based umrah travel industry. The research uses a quantitative approach with a survey method involving 150 pilgrims of Manarul Huda Travel, selected using a probability sampling technique with a random sampling approach. Data analysis was carried out using path analysis to test the direct and indirect effects among variables. The results show that perceived digital sharia finance integration and perceived compliance with sharia economic principles have a positive and significant effect on the decision to use umrah travel services, both directly and through consumer trust as a mediating variable. This finding confirms that strengthening the digital sharia financial service ecosystem, supported by consistent application of sharia economic principles, can increase consumer trust and encourage the decision to use the service. This research provides practical implications for umrah travel managers to strengthen a digital sharia financial service system that is transparent, secure, and in accordance with sharia principles as a strategy to increase trust and company competitiveness.
