Abstract

The global transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon economy has significantly increased demand for green jobs, creating new challenges for vocational education institutions. However, many vocational curricula remain primarily oriented toward conventional industrial needs, raising concerns about their readiness to prepare graduates for green employment sectors. This study aims to analyze the readiness of vocational education, particularly at the polytechnic level, in preparing graduates for green jobs through a needs analysis and the development of implementation strategies. This research employed a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data were collected through curriculum document analysis, questionnaires, interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving lecturers, program representatives, and green job experts. The study focused on Batam State Polytechnic (Polibatam) as the research context. The findings indicate that vocational education readiness for green jobs remains at an emerging stage. Key gaps were identified in the integration of sustainability principles within institutional vision and mission statements, learning outcomes, curriculum content, teaching practices, lecturer competencies, and eco-friendly infrastructure. Although moderate alignment with industry collaboration and national policy frameworks was observed, the overall implementation of the curriculum remains fragmented. Based on expert validation through FGDs, this study proposes a prototype model for green curriculum integration that emphasizes institutional, curricular, instructional, and collaborative strategies.

Abstract

Semantic typology in lexical systems reveals how languages categorise reality through patterned semantic relations, with meronymy (part–whole structuring) providing a productive domain for examining bodily terminology. This study investigates divergences in the meronymic encoding of kaki ‘leg/foot’ in Indonesian and Acehnese—two geographically proximate and genealogically related Austronesian languages—by examining the processes shaping meronymized lexis, formulating principles of meronymic relatedness, and identifying distinguishing features of the Acehnese partonym kaki. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the study analyses 32 Indonesian and 25 Acehnese foot-related meronyms drawn from KBBI and regional dictionaries, applying an inductive semantic-componential procedure to map hierarchical part–whole configurations. Results show that both languages display well-formed branching meronymic hierarchies but do not converge on a single unified model of the human leg. Indonesian exhibits a more fine-grained hierarchy (e.g., betis ‘calf’, telapak kaki ‘sole’, tumit ‘heel’, punggung kaki ‘instep’), whereas several of these—especially ‘instep’ and ‘calf’—lack fully lexicalised equivalents in Acehnese and are instead expressed through broader or descriptive forms. These differences align with functional salience and perceptual prominence, whereby experientially significant parts receive denser lexical encoding. The study concludes that Indonesians and Acehnese share universal principles of meronymic organisation yet differ markedly in semantic granularity, reflecting cultural perceptions of bodily segmentation. The findings support typological models of partonomy and underscore the need to expand Acehnese lexicographic documentation with native-speaker validation and future analyses across other body regions, including computational corpus-based extraction of meronymic structures.

Abstract

Kitchen waste management remains a challenge in urban areas, including the city of Batam. Previous community service programs have resulted in improved knowledge and skills among the community in processing organic waste into Eco-Grow-based liquid organic fertilizer (POC). However, the program’s sustainability requires strengthening the economic aspect through product commercialization. Therefore, this follow-up activity aims to develop the production, packaging, and marketing of POC as a marketable product for the TASAHI community. The methods employed include production mentoring, branding and packaging training, and community-based marketing strategies. Results indicate that the community is capable of consistently producing POC and creating products in ready-to-sell packaging. The product has been marketed on a limited basis in the surrounding area at a price range of Rp15,000–Rp25,000 per liter. Additionally, there has been an increase in economic motivation and the formation of joint business initiatives at the community level. This initiative demonstrates that the commercialization of POC based on the Eco-Grow model not only contributes to waste reduction but also serves as a sustainable strategy for community economic empowerment.
