Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of social media on students' language production from a psycholinguistic perspective, highlighting how digital interactions shape linguistic behavior and cognitive processes in language production. Digital technology has changed students' communication patterns and given rise to new forms of language such as abbreviations, emoticons, code-mixing, and syntactic simplification. Using a descriptive qualitative approach through documentation and conversation observation, this study identifies linguistic phenomena on WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok. The analysis is based on Levelt's speech production model, which includes the stages of conceptualization, formulation, and articulation. The results show that social media influences speech planning, lexical selection, and syntactic arrangement. Preliminary quantitative indications regarding the frequency of digital language use enrich the perspective of learning analytics. The study concludes that social media is a space for the formation of students' linguistic identity and has implications for digital literacy and academic language competence.

Abstract

In the digitalization era, language strategy has become an important part of tourism brands to enhance a destination's appeal and image. This study examines the language on the Mandailing Natal Regency Tourism Office Website (https://pariwisata.madina.go.id/), which is used for tourism branding. The research method used is qualitative descriptive analysis with a critical text analysis approach, including data collection from website content. The study results indicate that the language used on this website has several shortcomings, such as less attractive narratives, inconsistent language style, a lack of emphasis on local identity, and a suboptimal information structure. In addition, the visual elements on the website are not supported by relevant narratives. This means that the potential of Mandailing Natal Regency tourism branding has not been fully utilized using a language strategy. They could do a better job with language style consistency, local feeling emphasis, and findability elements. The findings of this study offer strategic recommendations for improving website quality and advancing tourism communication strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates language errors made by university students in learning English as a second language (L2) from a psycholinguistic perspective. It examines how mental processes such as attention, perception, memory, and speech production influence the emergence of errors in students’ written and spoken English. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research analyzes essays and oral performance of third-semester English students at STAIN Mandailing Natal. Thefindings indicate that interlingual interference, intralingual overgeneralization, and limited control of linguistic systems significantly contribute to student errors. Psycholinguistically, these errors are rooted in constraints of working memory, cross-linguistic influence, and disruptions in the formulation stage of speech production. The study concludes that language errors should be viewed as indicators of interlanguage development rather than mere deficiencies.

Abstract

This study investigates how language represents ideology and power in President Prabowo Subianto’s 2025 state speech delivered before the Annual Session of the Republic of Indonesia’s MPR/DPR/DPD. Using a qualitative approach with Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) based on Fairclough’s three-dimensional model and van Dijk’s socio-cognitive framework, the study examines textual structures, discursive practices, and social practices within the speech. The results reveal that the linguistic composition of the speech exhibits a strong ideological bias toward nationalism, economic sovereignty, and social justice. Historical references, metaphors, religious language, and populist expressions served as rhetorical tools, combining to create a rhetorical arsenal that crafted legitimacy and closeness to the people. The speech positions corruption, economic dependency, and serakahnomics as common enemies while promoting UUD 1945 as the foundation of political and economic ideology. This study contributes to understanding Indonesian political discourse by showing how language functions to legitimize power, shape public perception, and construct national identity. The study found that political language in modern Indonesia blends technocratic, populist, religious, and historical discourse into hegemony. It is suggested that more research be conducted on Indonesian presidential speeches.
