Abstract

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is a progressive condition that requires long-term hemodialysis and can substantially affect patients’ quality of life. Effective self-management is essential to support patients in managing symptoms, adapting to treatment demands, and maintaining physical and mental well-being. Methods: A descriptive correlational design using a cross-sectional approach was used in this research. The participants were patients with CKD undergoing routine hemodialysis at a regional public hospital in Sidoarjo, Indonesia. A total of 194 respondents were recruited using purposive sampling. Self-management was assessed using the Hemodialysis Self-Management Instrument (HDSMI-18), and quality of life was calculated using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life (KDQoL-36) questionnaire. Univariate analysis with Spearman correlation tests used to analyzed data. Results: Self-care was significantly associated with symptom control (r = 0.190; p = 0.008), effects of kidney disease (r = 0.412; p < 0.001), disease burden (r = 0.322; p < 0.001), and mental quality of life (r = 0.497; p < 0.001). Problem solving was associated with effects of kidney disease (r = 0.220; p = 0.002) and mental quality of life (r = 0.158; p = 0.027). Emotional management was related to physical (r = 0.147; p = 0.041) and mental quality of life (r = 0.147; p = 0.040). Overall self-management was associated with effects of kidney disease (r = 0.296; p < 0.001), disease burden (r = 0.171; p = 0.017), and mental quality of life (r = 0.277; p < 0.001), while partnership showed no significant associations. Conclusions: Self-management related to quality of life among patients undergoing hemodialysis, with self-care showing the strongest and most consistent associations. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening self-management skills, particularly self-care, problem solving, and emotional regulation, to optimize quality of life in patients with CKD.

Abstract

Background: Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG) is an important indicator of fluid management in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. Poor fluid restriction adherence may contribute to excessive fluid accumulation and complications. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the association between fluid restriction adherence and IDWG among patients with CKD undergoing regular hemodialysis at Husada Utama Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 30 patients recruited using total sampling. Fluid restriction adherence was assessed using the End-Stage Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire (ESRD-AQ), while IDWG was determined from body weight measurements between consecutive hemodialysis sessions. The association was analyzed using Fisher’s exact test with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Results: Most participants were aged ≥46 years (76.7%) and had undergone hemodialysis for more than 12 months (90.0%). Overall, 76.7% adhered to fluid restriction and had normal IDWG. All adherent participants had normal IDWG, whereas all non-adherent participants had high IDWG. A significant association was observed between fluid restriction adherence and IDWG (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Fluid restriction adherence was significantly associated with IDWG, highlighting the importance of supporting adherence as part of fluid management in hemodialysis care.

Abstract

. Medication adherence is a key determinant of successful tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Poor adherence to anti-tuberculosis therapy increases the risk of treatment failure, disease progression, and drug-resistant tuberculosis. This study examined medication adherence assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) and its association with treatment outcomes among patients with TB. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 40 tuberculosis patients receiving treatment at Wayaloar Primary Health Center, South Halmahera, North Maluku, Indonesia, from March to June 2026. Sociodemographic characteristics, behavioral factors, medication adherence, and treatment outcomes were obtained from structured questionnaires and medical records. Medication adherence was assessed using the MMAS-8 and categorized as adherent or non-adherent. Descriptive statistics and Fisher’s exact test were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25, with statistical significance set at p< 0.05. Overall, 87.5% of participants were adherent to anti-tuberculosis medication, and 92.5% achieved successful treatment outcomes. Educational level was significantly associated with medication adherence (p = 0.009), as was treatment outcome (p = 0.036). No significant associations were observed for age, sex, employment status, smoking history, or alcohol consumption. Good medication adherence was associated with favorable treatment outcomes. Strengthening adherence-support interventions and patient education may improve tuberculosis treatment success.

Abstract

Tingkat stres diukur melalui kuesioner Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42), sedangkan kualitas tidur pengukurannya memanfaatkan Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Analisis datanya dijalankan melalui pengujian korelasi Spearman Rank dengan derajat signifikansinya 0,05. Hasil: Temuan studi memperlihatkan bahwasanya mayoritas mahasiswa berada pada tingkat stres normal (67,5%), namun masih terdapat mahasiswa dengan stres ringan hingga berat. Sebagian besar respondennya mempunyai kualitas tidur buruk (62,5%).
