Abstract

Zakat is a strategic Islamic social finance instrument with strong potential to alleviate poverty, particularly in Muslim-majority countries. However, empirical evidence on zakat effectiveness remains mixed across poverty reduction, income enhancement, and mustahik empowerment outcomes. This article aims to systematically synthesize recent empirical findings on zakat effectiveness in poverty alleviation using a narrative meta-analysis approach. The manuscript is structured in accordance with the uploaded article template, covering abstract, introduction, methods, findings, discussion, conclusion, and references. This study reviews empirical works published between 2015 and 2026 from Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and other Muslim countries. The findings indicate that zakat contributes significantly to reducing absolute poverty, increasing mustahik income, improving microenterprise access, and strengthening household social resilience. Nevertheless, its impact on poverty depth and multidimensional poverty remains highly dependent on institutional governance, productive zakat schemes, digital integration, and policy synergy. The novelty of this article lies in proposing an outcome-based zakat integration framework linking consumptive zakat, productive zakat, digital governance, and multidimensional poverty indicators. This study recommends strengthening data-driven zakat governance, improving mustahik mentoring, and integrating zakat with national social protection programs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and measure the impact of zakat distribution on economic inequality, addressing the lack of comprehensive integration among diverse empirical findings. Given the persistent issue of inequality in Muslim-majority developing countries, this research highlights the relevance of zakat as a strategic Islamic social finance instrument for wealth redistribution. The study employs a systematic literature review (SLR) combined with a narrative meta-analysis of empirical studies published between 2015 and 2026, analyzing relevant works to identify patterns, approaches, and outcomes related to zakat distribution and its effects on economic inequality. The findings reveal that zakat contributes significantly to reducing economic inequality at a moderate level, primarily through increasing the income of mustahik (zakat beneficiaries) and strengthening microeconomic activities. However, its effectiveness in addressing long-term structural inequality is highly dependent on governance quality, distribution models, and alignment with public policy frameworks. This study is limited by its reliance on secondary data and variations in measurement approaches across the reviewed studies, which may affect generalizability. Nevertheless, it offers practical implications for policymakers and zakat institutions to improve governance, optimize distribution strategies, and enhance integration with broader economic policies. Furthermore, this research provides a novel contribution by proposing an outcome-based integrative model that connects consumptive zakat, productive zakat, digitalization, and multidimensional inequality indicators, offering a more comprehensive framework for understanding and optimizing the role of zakat in reducing economic inequality. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of murabahah financing, Islamic service ethics, and service accessibility on customer commitment at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Palopo Branch Office. This study was conducted as an effort to fill the gap in previous research which generally focused more on the aspects of customer satisfaction and loyalty, while customer commitment as a form of long-term relationship is still relatively rarely studied in depth. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The population in this study is all active customers of BSI Palopo Branch Office which is 23,818 customers. The sample was determined using the Slovin formula so that as many as 100 respondents were obtained by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, then analyzed using multiple linear regression, classical assumption test, t test, F test, and determination coefficient with the help of SPSS software. The results of the study show that partially murabahah financing has a positive and significant influence on customer commitment. Meanwhile, Islamic service ethics and service accessibility did not have a significant impact, although both showed a positive relationship direction. Simultaneously, these three variables have been proven to have a significant effect on customer commitment. The value of the determination coefficient shows that the research model is able to explain some of the variations in customer commitment. This study has limitations because it was only conducted at one research site with a relatively limited number of respondents, so generalization of results needs to be done carefully. Therefore, further research is recommended to expand the coverage of the region and add other variables in order to obtain more comprehensive results. This research makes a new contribution by integrating murabahah financing, Islamic service ethics, and service accessibility in explaining customer commitment in the context of Islamic banking at the local level.

Abstract

The development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has faced significant setbacks, particularly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study investigates the role of productive zakat in enhancing the resilience of MSMEs through a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected via interviews with 24 MSME actors and 3 productive zakat managers. The findings indicate that productive zakat contributes meaningfully to MSME resilience. Furthermore, the study highlights the relevance of human capital theory in business development, emphasizing the importance of skill enhancement and evaluation among MSME actors. The implications of this research support the ongoing resilience of MSMEs in the post-pandemic context and provide valuable insights for policymakers regarding productive zakat.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of spiritual dimension, emotional dimension, and service quality on customer loyalty with satisfaction as an intervening variable at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) KCP Sinjai. This research employed a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). A total of 100 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was tested for validity and reliability through the outer model, while hypothesis testing was conducted using the inner model. The findings indicate that all independent variables have a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction and loyalty. Furthermore, satisfaction significantly mediates the relationship between spiritual dimension, emotional dimension, and service quality on customer loyalty. These results highlight that integrating spiritual values, emotional experience, and service quality is a strategic factor in strengthening customer loyalty in Islamic banking.
