Abstract

Language is the intellectual bloodstream of Islamic higher education. When an Arabic program underperforms, access to classical and contemporary Islamic scholarship is inevitably constrained. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Arabic language program at Ma’had Al-Jamiah within three Islamic Religious State Universities (PTKIN) in Aceh: UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, IAIN Lhokseumawe, and IAIN Langsa. This research employs an evaluation design using the Logic Model to examine program components, including inputs, management processes, and results (outputs and outcomes). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and were analyzed comprehensively to identify alignment between program planning and implementation. The findings indicate that the Arabic language program has not yet achieved full effectiveness. Significant variations were found among the three Ma’had in terms of resources, managerial practices, and student learning outcomes. These disparities contribute to inconsistencies in both program outputs and long-term outcomes. The study underscores the need for stronger standardization, improved management, and enhanced institutional support to ensure sustainable development of students’ Arabic proficiency and academic competence.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven the need for innovative teaching materials that are adaptive, interactive, and learner-centred. This study aims to develop an Arabic e-module based on the Merdeka Curriculum that meets the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective in supporting the learning process. This study uses the Research and Development method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects involved subject matter experts, media experts, Arabic teachers, and secondary school students. Data were collected through validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The validation results showed that the e-module was of excellent quality in terms of content, language, and media display. The practicality test showed that the e-module was easy to use, interesting, and helped students learn independently. In addition, the effectiveness test results showed an increase in student learning outcomes after using the e-module. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Arabic e-module based on the Merdeka Curriculum is suitable for use as digital teaching material and can be an innovative alternative to improve the quality of Arabic language learning.

Abstract

Vocabulary memorization remains a significant challenge in Arabic language learning because students often struggle to retain and use newly learned words effectively. This study aimed to investigate how the implementation of direct methods and teaching aids could overcome students’ difficulties in memorizing Arabic vocabulary. The study employed a qualitative descriptive design involving one Arabic language teacher and 20 students in an intensive Arabic learning class. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation and analyzed using data condensation, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the direct method improved vocabulary retention through contextual language exposure, while teaching aids increased students’ engagement and comprehension through visual and concrete representations. The integration of both strategies reduced students’ dependence on translation, increased confidence in using Arabic vocabulary, and facilitated meaningful vocabulary acquisition. The novelty of this study lies in combining direct methods and teaching aids within a unified instructional framework. These findings suggest that Arabic language teachers should integrate communicative and visual learning strategies to improve vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The Communicative Method or Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a language teaching approach that emphasizes language ability as a means of communication. In the context of Arabic language learning for first-semester students (beginners), this method is considered relevant as it addresses low learning motivation, limited vocabulary mastery, and students’ lack of confidence. This article aims to examine the concepts, principles, and implementation of the communicative method in Arabic language learning for first-year students of the Islamic Economic Law Program at UIN Ar-Raniry. The research method employed is a library study by analyzing various literature sources related to CLT and Arabic language teaching. The results of the study indicate that the communicative method is effective in increasing students’ active participation, speaking confidence, and mastery of basic Arabic language skills in a contextual and functional manner.
