Abstract

Background: Sectio caesarea surgery is a surgical procedure that often causes anxiety in patients. This anxiety needs to be reduced to prevent adverse physical and psychological impacts. One potential non-pharmacological method is stress ball therapy, which can provide a relaxing effect and reduce anxiety through sensory stimulation. Purpose: To determine the effect of stress ball therapy on anxiety in pre-operative sectio caesarea patients at RSUD dr. Soehadi Prijonegoro Sragen. Method: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 35 mothers undergoing cesarean section who met the criteria. Stress ball therapy intervention was performed before entering the operating room. The participants held the ball for 3-5 seconds, repeating it 10 times within 1-minute, alternating hands. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) before and after the intervention. Results: Statistical analysis showed a difference in mean scores from 30.31 to 21.34, and a Marginal Homogeneity Test with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This indicates that stress ball therapy has an effect on anxiety levels in pre-sectio caesarea patients. Conclusion: Stress ball therapy has been proven effective as a complementary therapy in reducing post-sectio caesarea pain. It can be used as a reference in nursing practice to improve care for pre-operative mothers.

Abstract

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition resulting from a decline in the kidneys' ability to maintain bodily balance. In CKD patients, fluid volume overload can lead to edema; specifically, edema is caused by low blood albumin levels. Ankle pump therapy is a non-pharmacological approach used to reduce edema. Objectives To determine the effect of ankle pump therapy on edema levels in chronic kidney disease patients at RSU Diponegoro Dua Satu Klaten. This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 60 respondents selected via purposive sampling. Data collection utilized a pitting edema measurement sheet and a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for ankle pump exercises; data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. The Wilcoxon test for the 60 respondents yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating that ankle pump therapy reduces edema levels in patients with chronic kidney disease. Ankle pump therapy reduces edema levels in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Abstract

Surgical procedures carry various complications; hemorrhage characterized by restlessness, agitation, excessive movement, thirst, clamminess, pallor, tachycardia, and hypotension, as well as hypothermia resulting from exposure to operating room temperatures. One non-pharmacological management strategy for addressing hypothermia is the use of blanket warmer therapy. Objectives To determine the effect of using a blanket warmer on patients experiencing hypothermia following hemia surgery at the Central Surgical Unit of RSU Diponegoro 21 Klaten. This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 37 respondents selected via purposive sampling. The intervention involved the application of a blanket warmer. Researchers measured hypothermia levels using a digital thermometer. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a median of 32 before the blanket warmer intervention and 36 after the intervention. Statistical analysis yielded a p- value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the blanket warmer on hypothermia levels in post-hernia surgery patients. Before the intervention, 3 respondents were in the mild category, 26 in the moderate category, and 8 in the severe category. After the blanket warmer intervention, 19 respondents were in the mild category, 8 in the severe category, and 10 exhibited normal bods temperatures. The use of a blanket warmer has an effect on reducing hypothermia in post-operative hernia patients.
