Abstract

Late adolescence, especially for students participating in mobility programs such as the Merdeka Student Exchange (PMM), is a critical phase in the formation of self-identity and self-esteem. Adaptation to new environments, and separation from the main support system-family-are complex psychosocial challenges.  An important factor influencing self-esteem is family harmony, which includes emotional support, open communication, and a sense of security in relationships between family members. This study aims to examine the relationship between family harmony and self-esteem in students participating in PMM 2024. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was used in this study. The research subjects consisted of 100 late adolescents aged 18-21 years old who were selected using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used include a family harmony scale based on Hawari's (2006) theory and Rosenberg's (1965) self-esteem scale. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman correlation test. The results of the analysis showed a significant positive relationship between family harmony and self-esteem (ρ = 0.400; p = 0.000). This finding indicates that the higher the level of harmony in the family, the higher the self-esteem of adolescents. This study underscores the important role of family in shaping the self-esteem of late adolescents, as well as providing practical implications for the development of self-esteem.

Abstract

This study examines psychological and social factors influencing adolescents’ gaming behavior on Roblox. A qualitative descriptive approach with thematic analysis was applied. Data were collected from 150 participants aged 13–21 through open-ended questionnaires. The findings reveal that gaming motivation is influenced by entertainment needs, boredom, fear of missing out (FOMO), peer influence, and game features. High gaming intensity (more than 3 hours per day) indicates a tendency toward addictive behavior, particularly when gaming functions as a coping mechanism. Roblox provides positive impacts such as enhanced creativity and social interaction, but also negative consequences including sleep disruption, reduced productivity, and decreased offline engagement. The findings highlight that excessive gaming behavior results from the interaction of emotional, social, and game-design factors.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the effect of family functioning and emotional regulation on romantic beliefs among firstborn daughters. An approach using quantitative methods with purposive sampling was employed. The study involved 217 firstborn daughters who met the predetermined eligibility requirements. Information was gathered through the Family Assessment Device (FAD), the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), and the Romantic Beliefs Scale (RBS), and were statistically examined through multivariable regression analysis. The findings demonstrated that familial dynamics and emotional regulation simultaneously exerted a substantial influence on romantic beliefs (F = 239.500, p < .001), explaining 69.1% of the variance (R² = .691). Furthermore, both variables had a positive and significant effect on romantic beliefs, with emotional regulation demonstrating a stronger contribution than family functioning. These findings suggest that healthy family functioning and effective emotional regulation play important roles in shaping romantic beliefs among firstborn daughters.
