Abstract

The ability to develop 3D modelling is very important for educators because of its potential for further development in augmented reality and virtual reality. This paper describes the training activities for making 3D modelling for preservice teachers. The training was centred on the use of the Tinkercad platform. Pre-service teachers were asked to create 3D models of Mbaru Niang and the Grand Mosque of West Sumatra. The evaluation was conducted to assess the extent to which preservice teachers utilised the features in Tinkercad. In making Mbaru Niang, pre-service teachers generally use different forms of objects (basic objects made from cones or paraboloids), but with the same features (group, hole, and alignment). In contrast, when creating the Great Mosque of West Sumatra, pre-service teachers use the same basic object (a pyramid), but with additional features, such as a mirror. The results of this community service indicate that each teacher employs a similar approach in one 3d model project and different approaches in other projects. This study can serve as a starting point for future research or community service, providing a foundation for a similar long-term project that develops a more complex 3D model.

Abstract

Using comics with biological content is an art method that is gaining popularity, but it is still uncommon. In contrast, the advancement of biology comics research is still infrequently reviewed by researchers. Based on this, this paper evaluated biology comics research using bibliometric analysis based on the Scopus database. We coded using numerous criteria, including documents and citations, as well as the dimensions of biology comics based on three timeline groupings (2011-2014, 2015-2018, 2019-2022). Based on documents and citations, we grouped them by top journals, top authors, and keywords that were mentioned the most by authors. Based on the dimensions of biology comics research, we examine research methodologies, research samples, biology topics, comics type, comics implementation, and comics roles. In the last part, we reflected on and described potential future research directions based on the collected information.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with a steadily rising prevalence; Indonesia ranks fifth globally, with an estimated 20.4 million people living with DM in 2024. Bandar Lampung City is recorded as having one of the highest burdens of DM cases in Lampung Province; however, public knowledge regarding DM prevention and management specifically concerning the roles of physiotherapy and physical exercise remains low. Purpose: To enhance public knowledge regarding the role of physiotherapy in DM prevention and management through education on physical exercise. Method: This community service activity was conducted at the At-Taubah Mosque (Perum BKP Block S, LK III, Bandar Lampung City) on June 12, 2026. The initiative aimed to inform the community about DM and the role of physiotherapy in its management and prevention. Thirty women from a local religious study group participated in the activity. Respondent knowledge and understanding were assessed using a one-group pretest-posttest design, utilizing questionnaires administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the educational session. Data were analyzed descriptively and tested using simple statistics (paired t-test) to determine the significance of changes in knowledge scores and to illustrate the distribution of knowledge levels before and after the activity. An observational evaluation was also conducted to assess the activity's outcomes, involving guidance provided to participants during practical simulations of physiotherapy techniques. Results: The mean age of participants was 45.8 years, with the majority (n=22; 73.3%) falling within the 40–50 age range. Most participants had a high school education (n=19; 63.3%), and the majority were housewives (n=24; 80.0%). Regarding knowledge levels prior to the educational activity, 3 participants (10.0%) were in the "sufficient" category and 27 (90.0%) were in the "poor" category; following the activity, there was a proportional improvement, with 21 participants (70.0%) reaching the "good" category and 9 (30.0%) the "sufficient" category. The mean knowledge score increased from 45.67 points at the pre-test to 81.50 points at the post-test (p<0.000). Conclusion: The community service activity educating participants on the role of physiotherapy in the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus through physical exercise was successfully conducted and had a significant impact on increasing participants' knowledge. This achievement demonstrates that a health education approach combining theoretical instruction with live physical exercise demonstrations is an effective strategy for improving public health literacy, particularly regarding the role of physiotherapy in diabetes management. Suggestion: Participants are encouraged to apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives specifically by making a habit of engaging in at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week, practicing diabetic foot exercises independently at home, and promptly consulting a physiotherapist if they experience symptoms related to nerve or circulatory disorders in their feet.
