Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and loneliness among adolescents who use Instagram social media in Bukittinggi City. The study used a quantitative approach with purposive sampling techniques involving 165 adolescents aged 15–19 years. Data were collected using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale. The reliability test results showed a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.849 for self-esteem and 0.859 for loneliness. Data analysis using the Spearman Rank Correlation test showed a correlation coefficient value of -0.400 with p < 0.001, which means that there is a negative and significant relationship between the two variables. The higher the self-esteem of adolescents, the lower the level of loneliness they feel. These findings indicate the important role of self-esteem in maintaining the psychological well-being of adolescents and the need for digital literacy to encourage healthy and balanced use of social media.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the mindfulness technique in improving the sleep quality of university students experiencing sleep disturbances. The study employed a quantitative approach using a Randomized Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design. The participants consisted of 20 students from the Bukittinggi Branch Campus of Universitas Negeri Padang, randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group, with 10 participants in each group. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and analyzed with the Mann–Whitney U test using IBM SPSS. The normality test indicated that all data were normally distributed. The Mann–Whitney U analysis yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.001, indicating a significant difference in sleep quality between the experimental and control groups after the intervention. These findings suggest that the mindfulness technique is effective in improving students' sleep quality and has the potential to serve as a non-pharmacological intervention for promoting psychological well-being in higher education settings.
