Abstract

Parental divorce is a family experience that significantly affects adolescents’ psychological development, including emotion regulation and adjustment. This study aimed to examine the relationship between secure attachment and forgiveness in adolescents after parental divorce. A quantitative correlational design was employed. The participants were 62 adolescents aged 12–21 years, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires measuring secure attachment and forgiveness, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. The results indicated that most adolescents were at a moderate level of secure attachment and forgiveness. Correlation analysis revealed a positive and significant relationship of moderate strength between secure attachment and forgiveness. These findings suggest that adolescents with secure emotional attachment to their parents are more capable of processing negative emotions, reducing feelings of anger or disappointment, and developing a forgiving attitude toward divorce experiences. Secure attachment acts as a protective factor that supports emotional adjustment and builds psychological resilience. This study highlights the importance of focusing on the quality of emotional attachment in psychological interventions for adolescents after parental divorce and contributes to understanding protective mechanisms that facilitate the development of forgiveness.
