Abstract

This study intends to analyze the process, form, and feasibility of developing teaching materials for short story texts using multimedia video assistance for grade XI students of MAS AL WASHLIYAH using the 4D model. However, this study is limited to the development stage due to limited time and conditions. The validation stage involved material and design expert lecturers to evaluate the feasibility of the material and design. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and instruments. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that the product of the development of short story text teaching materials using multimedia video assistance obtained research results with "Very Good" criteria with an average of 87.8%. The evaluation results from material experts showed 90% with the criteria of "Good" and the results from media experts amounted to 85.6% with the criteria of "Very Good". Therefore, the teaching materials are considered suitable for use as supporting teaching materials in the learning process.

Abstract

Abstract: This study was motivated by the low digital literacy, psychosocial challenges, and high disaster risks faced by elementary school students in the Siosar relocation area, Karo Regency, following the eruption of Mount Sinabung. The study aimed to develop an Interactive Flat Panel (IFP)-based digital literacy learning model incorporating local wisdom to strengthen character, support mental health, and enhance disaster preparedness among students. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the Four-D (4D) model, comprising the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. Data were collected through observation and questionnaires, then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The research outputs consist of a learning model, learning materials, and IFP-based media, all validated through expert reviews and limited trials. The developed model is expected to serve as a valid, practical, and effective learning innovation for improving digital literacy, character, mental health, and disaster preparedness among elementary school students in disaster-prone areas. Keywords: digital literacy, Interactive Flat Panel (IFP), local wisdom, disaster preparedness, elementary school. Abstract

The transmission of regional cultural heritage to younger generations has become increasingly challenging amid globalization and the limited use of innovative instructional media in primary education. This study examined the effectiveness of Storybird-based digital storytelling in improving elementary school students' folktale narrative writing performance using “The Legend of Lake Toba” as instructional content. A quantitative one-group pretest–posttest design involved 35 elementary school students (N = 35, df = 34). Writing performance was assessed in terms of characterization, plot organization, and thematic development. Descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test were applied after the normality of the paired difference scores had been verified using the Lilliefors test. The mean writing score increased from 5.72 at pretest to 8.13 at posttest on a 10-point scale. This improvement was statistically significant, t(34) = 8.092, p < .001, 95% CI [1.80, 3.02], with a large paired-samples effect size (Cohen's d_z = 1.37). Storybird's visual prompts and sequential structure appeared to scaffold idea generation and narrative organization, with the largest improvement observed in characterization. These findings indicate that integrating local cultural content with multimodal digital storytelling can strengthen elementary students' narrative writing performance; broader claims concerning cultural preservation require direct measurement in future research.
