This study aimed to describe the structure and function of the Benayuk folklore by Sepala Dalung version. This folklore tells of a King named Benayuk of the Menjelutung Kingdom. The Tidung tribe society believed that Benayuk was their first King and Menjelutung was their oldest Kingdom. In addition, it could be seen the several indications that the folklore affected to the Sepala Dalung society. These make the Benayuk folklore interesting to study. This study uses the descriptive method that aimed to describe the structure and function of the Benayuk folklore for the Sepala Dalung society through the stage of observation, interview, recording and notes, and analysis data through the stages of data identification, classification, and description. The preliminary analysis used Algirdas Julien Greimas's narratological structuralism to describe the structure of the Benayuk folklore by Sepala Dalung version. The results of the study showed 4 acting schemes and functional models in the Benayuk folklore by Sepala Dalung version. The results of the preliminary analysis are used as the basis for continued onto the next analysis, which is the analysis of the function of the Benayuk folklore for the Sepala Dalung community by used the folklore function theory. In this section, the several functions of the Benayuk folklore are found for the Sepala Dalung society. The second one is that the Benayuk folklore could be used for social authorization in the form of the endorsement and recognition for the Menjelutung Kingdom and the social norms in the form of prohibitions and recommendations. The second is that the Benayuk folklore can be used to enforcing the validity of social norms inform the prohibition to be close to the whirlpool, said a bad word, created problem in the society, and the recommendation to said greetings and stayed alert when the Sesayap River recedes. The last one is that the Benayuk folklore could be used to educate the children not to help each other in crime and respect to the social norms that applied in Sepala Dalung society. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur dan fungsi cerita rakyat Benayuk versi Sepala Dalung. Cerita rakyat ini menceritakan tentang seorang raja bernama Benayuk di Kerajaan Menjelutung. Masyarakat suku Tidung percaya bahwa Benayuk adalah raja pertama mereka dan Menjelutung adalah kerajaan mereka. Di samping itu, terlihat indikasi bahwa cerita tersebut berpengaruh bagi masyarakat Sepala Dalung. Hal tersebut yang membuat cerita rakyat Benayuk menarik untuk diteliti. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur dan fungsi cerita tersebut bagi masyarakat Sepala Dalung melalui tahapan pengamatan, wawancara, rekam dan catat, dan analisis data melalui tahap identifikasi data, klasifikasi, dan deskripsi. Analisis awal menggunakan teori strukturalisme naratologi Algirdas Julien Greimas untuk menggambarkan struktur cerita rakyat Benayuk versi Sepala Dalung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan empat pola aktan dan model fungsional pada cerita rakyat Benayuk versi Sepala Dalung. Hasil analisis awal tersebut dijadikan dasar untuk melanjutkan ke analisis selanjutnya, yaitu analisis fungsi cerita rakyat Benayuk bagi masyarakat Sepala Dalung menggunakan teori fungsi cerita rakyat. Pada bagian ini, ditemukan beberapa fungsi cerita rakyat Benayuk bagi masyarakat Sepala Dalung. Pertama, alat pengesahan sosial berupa pengesahan atau pengakuan atas eksistensi Kerajaan Menjelutung dan norma-norma sosial berupa larangan serta anjuran. Kedua, pemaksa berlakunya norma-norma sosial berupa larangan mendekati pusaran air, berkata-kata buruk, membuat keributan di masyarakat, serta anjuran mengucap salam, dan tetap waspada saat sungai Sesayap sedang surut. Terakhir, alat pendidikan anak agar tidak melakukan tolong-menolong dalam kejahatan dan pemalsuan, tidak mempermainkan binatang, serta mematuhi norma-norma sosial yang berlaku di masyarakat Sepala Dalung.
