This quasi experimental research aimed to know of effectiveness of implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) viewed by students mathematical representations skill. The population of this research was all students of grade eight of MTs of Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung which was distributed into four classes. The samples were selected by purposive random sampling technique. The design which was used was pre-testpost-test control design. Based on the result of research, it was concluded that the implementation of PBL was not effective viewed by students mathematical representations skill but more effective than conventional learning.Penelitian eksperimen semu ini yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penerapan Problem Based Learning (PBL) ditinjau dari kemampuan representasi matematis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII MTs. Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung yang terdistribusi dalam empat kelas. Sampel dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive random sampling. Desain yang digunakan adalah pre-testpost-test control design. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa penerapan PBL tidak efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan representasi matematis siswa tetapi lebih efektif dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional.Kata kunci: efektivitas, kemampuan representasi matematis, PBL
