The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of discovery learning method assessed from students' ability toward the mathematical problem solving. In this research by using Post test only group control design was administered to obtain the data. The population of this research was the second year students of SMP Negeri 9 in the academic year of 2016/ 2017 by applying total sampling technique, 2 classes were taken as the samples of this research. Analysis data of this research used Mann Whitney-u test Based on this research,it could be concluded that discovery learning method was not effective assessed from students' ability toward mathematical problem solvingPenelitian eksperimen semu ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas pembelajaran discovery ditinjau dari kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan posttest only control group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas SMP Negeri 9 Bandar Lampung tahun pelajaran 2016/2017. Melalui teknik sampling jenuh kelas diambil sebagai sampel. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan uji Mann Whitney-u Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran discovery tidak efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswaKata kunci: discovery learning method, efektivitas, kemampuan pemecahan masalah
