Abstract This study aims to revive the treasures of scientific interpretation of the Qur'an from Tafsir al-Misbah by Quraish Sihab and Tafsir al-Azhar by Hamka in the hope of finding relevant interpretations, or even problem solving, in the current era. The issue of establishing an Islamic state in Indonesia is not something new that we hear today, but it was already there when Indonesia was just about to emerge as a unitary state. However, the issue of the formation of an Islamic state and the movement has never stopped, until now there are still many attempts by certain groups to establish an Islamic state, with various patterns and forms of ideology. In this study, the researchers tried to present how the real concept of the state is, as well as researchers who tried to connect with the current state context. This research is a library research, which makes the books of Tafsir al-Azhar and al-Misbah as the main research sources. This study aims to describe the interpretation of the khilafah verse.
