This paper examines the development of structural paradigm in theanthropology discipline in Indonesia during the period of 1979 - 2009. It looksat cultural models used by new anthropology paradigms. There are two newparadigms considered in the paper. One is ethnoscience from America and theother is Levi-Strauss structuralism from France. Although the two paradigmsare different, but both use model originated from the same discipline, namelylinguistic, or phonology sub-discipline. The key difference is that Frenchstructuralism get the model from structural phonology developed by RomanJakobson, while ethnoscience get the model from descriptive phonology.Keywords: model, paradigm, ethnoscience, French structuralism
