Abstract

Earthquake activity distribution can be inferred from analyzing seismo-tectonic parameter in its region by using Gutenberg-Richter relation. This analysis result important information for earthquake mitigation. This research analyze earthquake relocation data from EHB catalogue (1964-2005) and BMKG catalogue (2006-2008). Area of interest is Indonesia region and its vicinity,  10° S - 8° N dan 92° E -142° W. Maximum likelyhood method to computating of these parameter by using ZMAP software. The b-value relating the number of large to small earthquakes of indonesia region is estimated to be 0,6 – 1,8. From the spatial variability of b-value show that some region with low value have a larger risk of relatively big earthquake. Some region which have higher a-value usually are very active seismicity region. Return periode of relatively big eartquake (M=6,5) are about 2 – 12 years. Temporal variability of b-value show that have decrease before a large earhtquake, but need more ressearh to be used this value as a earhtquake precursor.
