Abstract

Facies can be interpreted as a body of rock in which there are various distinctive features and a certain character related to chemical, physical and biological factors, which can be seen from the rock lithology or sedimentary structure at work. Facies can be used to determine the overall depositional environment, which is then hoped to be a reference for carrying out activities such as oil and gas exploration. The aim of this research is to determine the facies found in the Kais formation of the Salawati Basin located on the bird's head of Irian Jaya Island. This facies analysis uses log data originating from one of the wells in the study area. The carbonate rock facies in the Kais formation of the Salawati Basin is the mudstone to wackestone facies, wackestone to packstone facies and wackestone facies (Dunham, 1962).
