Background: The duration of the first stage of labor in primigravidas is longer than in multigravidas. The longer the labor process, the more the mother in labor will feel tired which can result in inadequate uterine contractions, resulting in prolonged labour, increased maternal distress, and an increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage which contributes to maternal mortality. One of the physiological efforts that can be carried out during the first stage of labor is by providing birth ball intervention. Objective: To determine the effect of the birth ball on the length of labor in the active phase of first stage in primigravida. Purpose: To determine the effect of the birth ball on the length of labor in the active phase of first stage in primigravid. Methods: This research uses a quasi-experimental research method. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 34 respondents consisting of 17 intervention group respondents and 17 control group respondents. Data were collected using observation sheets and partographs, then the data were analyzed using the Independent Samples T-test statistical test. Results: The first stage of labor in the active phase was 204.18 minutes (3 hours 24 minutes), and in the control group it was 252.35 minutes (4 hours 12 minutes). The results of data analysis showed that the p value was 0.019 < 0.05, so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted, meaning that there was a significant difference between the average length of labor during the first active phase in the birth ball intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: There is an effect of the birth ball on the length of labor in the first stage of the active phase in primigravida.
