In a cultural context, literary works have language characteristics that are different from scientific or everyday language. In the process of translating literary works, special techniques are needed to preserve the beauty and diction of the original text. Cultural differences between the source language and the target language are an important factor that translators must consider. When the original term in the source language has no direct equivalent in the target language, generalization is a translation technique that can be used. In the novel Central Park, there are many generalization techniques applied by the translator. This study uses qualitative research method because the researcher examines the data by explaining or describing the data in detail. Based on the findings in the analysis, there are 51 samples that show that the generalization techniques applied by the translators are in line with the theory. Most of the generalization techniques applied are to simplify phrases into more common and recognizable words, and to explain words whose equivalents do not exist in the target language.
