Abstract

Learning strategy planning in science education must be adjusted to the stages of children's mental and cognitive development because there are abstract concepts that are difficult for students to understand. Therefore, this study aims to explore how science education is adjusted to children's mental development based on Piaget's theoretical perspective so that effective learning is obtained. The research method is descriptive qualitative research with literature study techniques. The research data is secondary data sourced from previous research journals and books that are relevant to the research topic. The findings show that in designing effective learning, it is necessary to prepare learning materials and methods that are adjusted to the stages of children's cognitive development such as sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational. These stages show children's abilities and characteristics of different children's mental development so that the learning model applied must be appropriate. Experimental and observation methods can be effective learning approaches in science learning, especially when viewed from Jean Piaget's perspective which can be applied since children enter the concrete operational stage. Implementation of the right learning model can improve students' critical thinking skills and creativity. It is hoped that these findings can be used by teachers as a principle in planning learning strategies that are adjusted to the stages of students' mental and cognitive development so that they can adjust targets and make learning effective.
