Abstract

Inflammation is a reaction to stimulation by harmful agents, infection, trauma, or tissue injury. One plant that has anti-inflammatory properties is red andong leaves. The chemical content of Andong leaf extract, which has anti-inflamatorry activity, is flavonoids. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract of red andong leaves on carrageenan-induced white rats and determine the effective dose. Testing of the anti-inflammatory activity was carried out using 25 white rats as test animals and divided into 5 treatment groups, namely group 1 (diclofenac sodium dose 4.5 mg/kgBW), group II (Na CMC 0.5%), group III (extract dose 100 mg/kgBW), group IV (extract dose 200 mg/kgBW), group V (extract dose 400 mg/kgBW). After 30 minutes of administering the extract and comparator, the experimental animals were injected with carrageenan. Then, the rat leg volume was measured after 1 hour of injection, starting from the 1st to the 6th hour. The results of anti-inflammatory activity test observations were carried out by determining the percentage of inflammation in the rats' feet. The effective dose in the anti-inflammatory activity test was an extract dose of 200 mg/kgBW, which had inflammation percentage results that were comparable to the positive control.   ABSTRAK Peradangan adalah reaksi terhadap rangsangan agen berbahaya, infeksi, trauma, atau cedera pada jaringan. Salah satu tanaman yang memiliki khasiat antiinflamasi yaitu daun andong merah. Kandungan kimia dari ekstrak daun andong yang memiliki aktivitas antiinflamasi yaitu flavonoid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antiinflamasi ekstrak etanol daun andong merah terhadap tikus putih yang diinduksi karagenan dan mengetahui dosis efektifnya. Pengujian aktivitas antiinflamasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan hewan uji tikus 25 ekor dibagi dalam 5 kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok I kontrol negatif (Na CMC 0,5 %), kelompok II kontrol positif (natrium diklofenak dosis 4,5 mg/kg BB), kelompok III (ekstrak dosis 100 mg/kg BB), kelompok IV (ekstrak dosis 200 mg/kg BB), kelompok V (ekstrak dosis 400 mg/kg BB). Hewan uji diberikan ekstrak dan pembanding, kemudian disuntik karagenan setelah 30 menit. Setelah penyuntikan, volume kaki tikus diukur setiap jam, dimulai pada jam pertama dan berakhir pada jam ke enam. Hasil pengamatan uji aktivitas antiinflamasi dilakukan dengan menentukan persentase peradangan pada kaki tikus. Dosis efektif pengujian antiinflamasi yaitu ekstrak dosis 200 mg/kgBB yang memiliki hasil persentase peradangan yang sebanding dengan kontrol positif.
