This research focuses on the influence of Kyai leadership patronage in building parental choice in Islamic boarding schools. The aim is to understand how Kyai leadership influences parents’ decisions in choosing an Islamic boarding school and how this impacts the quality of education in Islamic boarding schools. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type involving in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies at the Bumi Al-Qur’an Islamic Boarding School, Kotaanyar, Probolinggo. The research results show that Kyai’s personality and spiritual authority, advice and guidance, and good communication with parents are the main factors in building trust and loyalty. Kyai’s strategies in strengthening social capital and active presence in community activities also contributed significantly to parents’ decisions. This research makes an essential contribution by updating the perspective on charismatic leadership in the context of religious education and highlighting the role of social capital in shaping parental choice. The implications of this research show that improving the quality of education in Islamic boarding schools can be achieved through inclusive and participatory Kyai leadership. Further, more comprehensive research is needed to overcome limitations in various respondents and research methods.
