Abstract: The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of adding Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) on the quality of liquid soap made from olive oil. Soap is made through a saponification reaction with the main composition: 25 grams of olive oil, 5.2 grams of sorbitol, 5.2 grams of 0.1 N KOH solution, and 7.8 grams of distilled water. Variations in the addition of SLS were carried out in four concentrations, namely 1.25 grams, 2.5 grams, 3.75 grams, and 5 grams. The parameters tested include foam stability, viscosity, free alkali, pH, and organoleptic tests. The results showed that the addition of SLS had a significant effect on improving the quality of liquid soap, especially in terms of foam and viscosity. The SLS concentration of 2.5 grams produced soap with optimal performance, a pH of 10 which is still in accordance with SNI standards, and good foam stability. Thus, this study succeeded in determining the ideal SLS concentration to improve the quality of liquid soap according to SNI 1996 and SNI 2558:2017 standards.
