Abstract

Abstract The foundation is an important element in building construction which functions to distribute the load to the ground below. In earthquake-prone areas, choosing the type of foundation is crucial to ensure building stability. This research compares the performance of shallow foundations and deep foundations based on literature studies. The results show that deep foundations are superior in dealing with dynamic loads due to earthquakes because of their ability to distribute loads to deeper and more stable soil layers. However, shallow foundations can still be used in stable soil conditions with light structural loads. The main recommendation is the use of deep foundations or a combination of methods such as pile-raft foundations to increase the stability of the building.
