Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Independent Curriculum (Curriculum Merdeka) in environmental conservation through recycling activities from an Islamic education perspective at Ma'arif NU Junior High School (SMP Ma'arif NU) Pandaan, Pasuruan. The background of this research is based on the importance of integrating Islamic values in environmental conservation efforts, particularly amidst the challenges of increasing environmental damage. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews with the principal, teachers, and students, and documentation of recycling activities carried out at the school. Data analysis techniques used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the Independent Curriculum provides flexibility for teachers in designing project-based learning relevant to students' daily lives. Recycling activities are integrated into cross-subject learning, with an emphasis on Islamic values such as cleanliness (thaharah), responsibility, trustworthiness, and concern for others. The implementation process begins with project planning, collecting used materials, processing them, and producing useful products. These activities not only increase students' awareness of the importance of environmental protection but also foster entrepreneurial skills and self-confidence. The Islamic educational perspective provides a moral foundation that environmental protection is part of God's mandate, which must be maintained by humans as caliphs on earth. This study concludes that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, based on Islamic education, can optimize the development of environmentally conscious character while creating contextual, creative learning that has a real impact on students and the community. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka dalam pelestarian lingkungan hidup melalui kegiatan daur ulang dengan perspektif pendidikan Islam di SMP Ma’arif NU Pandaan Pasuruan. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasarkan pada pentingnya integrasi nilai-nilai keislaman dalam upaya pelestarian lingkungan hidup, khususnya di tengah tantangan kerusakan lingkungan yang semakin meningkat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dengan kepala sekolah, guru, dan siswa, serta dokumentasi kegiatan daur ulang yang dilaksanakan di sekolah. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kurikulum Merdeka memberikan fleksibilitas bagi guru dalam merancang pembelajaran berbasis proyek yang relevan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari siswa. Kegiatan daur ulang diintegrasikan ke dalam pembelajaran lintas mata pelajaran, dengan penekanan pada nilai-nilai Islam seperti kebersihan (thaharah), tanggung jawab, amanah, dan kepedulian terhadap sesama. Proses implementasi dimulai dari perencanaan proyek, pengumpulan bahan bekas, pengolahan, hingga pembuatan produk bernilai guna. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya meningkatkan kesadaran siswa terhadap pentingnya menjaga lingkungan, tetapi juga menumbuhkan keterampilan kewirausahaan dan rasa percaya diri. Perspektif pendidikan Islam memberikan landasan moral bahwa menjaga lingkungan merupakan bagian dari amanah Allah yang harus dipelihara oleh manusia sebagai khalifah di bumi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka berbasis pendidikan Islam mampu mengoptimalkan pembentukan karakter peduli lingkungan sekaligus menciptakan pembelajaran yang kontekstual, kreatif, dan berdampak nyata bagi siswa maupun masyarakat.
