Abstract

The presence of pets in human life not only provides social benefits but also impacts the psychological well-being of their owners. The Balinese community, living within a harmonious culture rooted in the values of Tri Hita Karana, demonstrates a unique relationship between humans and animals as part of life balance. This study aimed to determine the relationship between pet attachment and psychological well-being among Balinese people who own pets, particularly dogs. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample was selected using accidental sampling from Balinese individuals who had owned dogs for more than one year, with a total of 171 respondents. Data were collected using the Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale (LAPS) and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS). The results of the analysis showed a significant positive relationship between pet attachment and all dimensions of psychological well-being, although the strength of the correlations varied. The dimension of positive relations with others had the strongest correlation, while life purpose had the weakest yet still significant correlation. The implications of this research indicated that attachment to pets could serve as a promotive and preventive strategy to enhance psychological well-being in the community through culturally rooted and community-based approaches. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan skala Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale (LAPS) dan Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS).
