Abstract

Abstract This study aims to examine the Ghosting phenomenon as a trigger for divorce among Generation Z in Indonesia, focusing on its psychological impact on victims and gender dynamics within relationships. Using a mix-method approach, quantitative data was obtained from the 2024 statistics of the Ministry of Religion, which showed that Ghosting accounted for 8.4% of 408,347 divorce cases, while qualitative data was collected through in-depth interviews with 1,500 Millennial and Gen Z respondents across 12 major cities. The findings reveal that Ghosting reflects poor communication patterns and emotional instability, worsening marital conflicts in the digital age. Urbanization and technological access have exacerbated this trend, with West Java recording the highest number of cases (88,842). The research highlights the importance of premarital education and effective communication modules to help couples navigate modern challenges such as instant culture, economic pressures, and lack of emotional understanding. Psychological factors like low self-esteem and social anxiety also emerged as predictors of Ghosting behavior. Although this study provides insights into the relationship between Ghosting and divorce, its limitations lie in the minimal exploration of local cultural contexts and longitudinal analysis. Therefore, further research is needed to develop holistic and inclusive solutions. Keywords: A Trigger for Divorce, In Indonesia, The Phenomenon of Ghosting.
