Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of mindfulness based on deep breathing techniques in improving emotional regulation abilities among university students who often face academic and social pressures. A total of 12 students in Samarinda were divided into two groups: experimental and control. The experimental group underwent a mindfulness training based on deep breathing for five consecutive days, with each session lasting 30 minutes. The study employed a pretest-posttest control group design, using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) as the instrument. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in emotional regulation in the experimental group before and after the intervention (t = -3.824, p = 0.012). Additionally, the experimental group showed a significant difference compared to the control group (t = -2.398, p = 0.037), with a mean difference of -8.333. These findings confirm that mindfulness training based on deep breathing is effective in enhancing emotional regulation in students, and can help them manage academic and social pressures more adaptively ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas mindfulness berbasis deep breathing dalam meningkatkan kemampuan regulasi emosi mahasiswa yang sering menghadapi tekanan akademik dan sosial. Sebanyak 12 mahasiswa di Samarinda dibagi menjadi dua kelompok: eksperimen dan kontrol. Kelompok eksperimen mengikuti pelatihan mindfulness berbasis deep breathing selama lima hari berturut-turut, dengan durasi setiap sesi 30 menit. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah pretest-posttest control group design, dengan menggunakan instrumen Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam regulasi emosi pada kelompok eksperimen sebelum dan sesudah intervensi (t = -3.824, p = 0.012). Selain itu, kelompok eksperimen menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan dibandingkan kelompok kontrol (t = -2.398, p = 0.037), dengan selisih rata-rata skor sebesar -8.333. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pelatihan mindfulness berbasis deep breathing efektif dalam meningkatkan regulasi emosi mahasiswa, serta dapat membantu mereka mengelola tekanan akademik dan sosial dengan lebih adaptif.
