Abstract

Airports play a vital role as centers of transportation and economic activity; however, increasing flight operations can generate noise issues that adversely affect the comfort and health of surrounding communities. One of the flight phases that significantly contributes to aircraft noise is the approach phase, particularly along the Instrument Landing System (ILS) flight path. This study aims to analyze the safe distance of residential areas from aircraft noise exposure along the ILS approach path of Runway 24 at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. The research employs a theoretical noise analysis based on aircraft noise certification data issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), using a Sound Pressure Level (SPL) calculation approach with the assumption of free-field noise propagation. The analysis is conducted at three approach points, namely 1.8 nm, 3 nm, and 6 nm, for several aircraft types commonly operating at the airport. The results indicate that each aircraft type produces a different noise exposure distance, with the Boeing 737-300 generating the longest distance (approximately 7.07 km), followed by the Airbus A320-214 (approximately 4.07 km), the Dassault Falcon 7X (approximately 3.38 km), and the ATR 72-200 (approximately 2.95 km). Evaluation at all approach points shows that the noise levels exceed the 55 dBA threshold for residential areas. The findings of this study are expected to serve as an initial reference for spatial planning in airport surrounding areas and as a basis for mitigating the impact of aircraft noise.
