Abstract

Islamic education learning in higher education plays an important role in shaping students who are not only academically competent but also possess moral and spiritual integrity. However, in practice, Islamic education learning still faces various challenges, particularly related to the predominance of conventional teaching methods and the suboptimal use of learning media. This study aims to analyze the challenges and innovations in Islamic education learning at UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subjects were students participating in Islamic education learning, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Islamic education learning is still dominated by lecture-based methods and the use of learning technology has not been implemented consistently, resulting in low student participation. However, the implementation of learning innovations, such as discussion methods, group presentations, and the use of technology-based learning media, was found to enhance student engagement and participation. ABSTRAK Pembelajaran pendidikan Islam di perguruan tinggi memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk mahasiswa yang tidak hanya unggul secara akademik, tetapi juga memiliki integritas moral dan spiritual. Namun, dalam praktiknya pembelajaran pendidikan Islam masih menghadapi berbagai problematika, terutama berkaitan dengan metode pembelajaran yang cenderung konvensional dan pemanfaatan media pembelajaran yang belum optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis problematika serta inovasi pembelajaran pendidikan Islam di UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran pendidikan Islam dan dipilih secara purposive. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi observasi, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran pendidikan Islam masih didominasi metode ceramah dan pemanfaatan teknologi pembelajaran belum dilakukan secara konsisten, sehingga berdampak pada rendahnya partisipasi mahasiswa. Namun demikian, penerapan inovasi pembelajaran berupa diskusi, presentasi kelompok, dan penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis teknologi mampu meningkatkan keaktifan dan keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran.
