Urban waste management is often inefficient due to the lack of real-time data on waste disposal intensity, resulting in less optimal waste collection routes. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based piezoelectric vibration sensor as a low-cost solution for detecting waste disposal intensity. The primary method used was prototyping, employing an ESP32 microcontroller integrated with the ThingSpeak cloud platform and a time-interval-based debouncing algorithm to reduce duplicate readings. The test results showed a 100% data transmission success rate at waste disposal intervals of more than 16 seconds. However, the system was less sensitive to waste weighing less than 5 grams, indicating the need for precise threshold calibration. Overall, the proposed system was considered effective and economical for IoT-based waste disposal intensity monitoring.
