Reading skills are a fundamental component in the learning process and literacy development of elementary school students. This study aims to analyze the reading abilities of fourth and fifth grade students at SD Negeri 237 Palembang, focusing on key aspects including understanding basic meanings, interpreting text, evaluating content, and reading speed. A descriptive quantitative method was used, involving 21 students as participants. The results indicate that students tend to perform better in the evaluation aspect, while comprehension and reading speed require further improvement. These findings highlight the importance of varied and contextual reading instruction strategies to enhance students’ overall literacy skills
